In my first playtrough I used Me as Archer, Wynne, Morrigan and Alistair and it all went perfect... killed every big monster...went trough it pretty well ...could count on one hand the times someone died on me.

Anyway, now in my second playtrough I wanna use another Team.
So I've now finished Lothering and currently doing Shales recruitment .

So the Problem is...Sten just keeps dying on me in every single bigger fight.
My team is Me as Warrior doing the Tank...Sten as Twohanded scrapper...Leliana as Archer and Morrigan with some damage spells.

The obvious problem seems to be that every single enemy is only attacking Sten ...but he is not using "Threaten" or "Taunt"...instead My warden is using "Threaten" and I even gave Sten an amulett with reducing hostillity...but still everyone is only going for Sten...doesnt matter that I run in first...they immediatley go allout for Sten. I could keep him alive...but then I really would do nothing but constantly give him health potients...but even then its hard...the moment he drinks a potient he is down on low health again...
and no hes not fightin in just "clothes" ;)

Am I doing something wrong...or what is the best thing to do to make him either stronger (without turning him into a tank) or make more sure the enemy is focusing on my main?

I think it also has to do with what kind of armour your have him in. If you put him in heavy and you're in medium, they would focus on him (if I remember the tanking specs right).

Yeap thanks that was it...totaly forgot about the effect of heavy armour.

They mainly attack my tank warden now...though I have to wear an actually inferior armour now.

Just as a note, Hostility increasing and reducing effects are not properly implemented, and therefore do nothing. So that item you equipped was doing nothing in that regard.

I remove all Taunt & Threaten from Stens' tactics, reset with Pommel, Sunder, and Mighty Blow requests, place him in heavy or massive armor, and let him simmer until done.

Sten dies a lot in the early game because he has a lack of spammable talents and good 2H weapons. 2Hs rely on spamming, and without access to more than two or three he will largely rely on auto-attack, which is terrible for 2H warriors. Slow attack speed = low DPS, and low defense = get hit a lot. So there's a lot of factors there that are influencing the fact that Sten dies a crap-ton.

I solve this problem by not using Sten until level...12 or so, when he gets the talents he needs to be epic (read: Two-Handed Sweep).

I despise taunt and threaten . . . characters with those on are useless.

Threaten is crap; don't use it.

Taunt is better than it in every situation.

I'm currently running the exact same group on Nightmare, and I haven't lost Sten once. I started out in the leather armor from Leliana's DLC, and have Sten using the Blood Dragon Armor (if you have that ofc). So far I haven't bothered with taunt or threaten even once, I just rush in and let NPCs attack whoever thay want, no one lasts long enough to survive. I only need to py a bit of attention to sten's health when it comes to bosses.

I find myself that you must use sten with 2wp and not with double weapons. Give sten but a good large two handed sword. Sten will fight beter in the course of the game, when his experiences go high.

You don't find them effective against archers once Alistair has leveled up his shield ability?

Really?  Still?  Four patches, and it's still an issue?

I didn't like Taunt and Threaten even when I thought they worked... However you need to "go through" them to get the higher warrior talents. A waste.

I'm considering if it might be worthy to convert Sten into a weapon+shield or a 2 weapon warrior even if you lose his initial 2H talents?

Another cause of Sten's "suckiness" is that he doesn't get a class at level 7 like everyone else. I wonder why.

I despise archers.  HATE them.

But no, I still don't use any one character as a target (otherwise known as your classic tank).  I use my mages to hit them with sleep spells, force field or the like, anything to disable them, use my own archer to target them immediately (with generally better bows, my archer has that advantage except in rare instances).

I generally send my PC or one warrior straight for the non-disabled archers, letting my 4th companion (usually I travel with 2 warriors, rogue and mage) go for any melee enemies until the archers are dead - then I come back and help.

I just don't like the idea of one person in a party of 4 doing nothing but getting pummelled - they can't take that damage without another character doing almost nothing but healing them, which essentially makes a 2 person party.

What's this "respec mod" that people keep mentioning? That might help Sten out. :)

For better or worse, what you describe there -- meatshield, healer dedicated to meat shield, 2+ free to do as much damage as fast as they can, has been a staple of fantasy gaming since before there were games on computers.

Oh, absolutely true.  But for a 4 person party, I don't like it.  Give me 6 in a party - or maybe even 5 - and I'd use it, but not with 4.  Particularly with some of the larger encounters in DA, 2 people actually fighting - with one meatshield and 1 healer - makes it much tougher, IMO.
