No, I wont. The only game I really enjoyed horses was Mount and blade

I just discovered this game, and I ABSOLUTELY agree with you.

Unless horses play an integral part in the combat or something and arn't simply tacked on for the "Ooooo pretty pony" effect, keep them the hell out.

Wait, does that include shiny, boney, undead ponies?

Don't miss horses at all here, the only one game with horses I remember playing is Zelda (Ocarina of time and twilight princess) and they were great additions, but it is not a requirement for me.

Don't miss horses, the game is not meant to be played on horse, and the zones would seem too small. Would be fun though if there were decorative horses, or some near an inn, that we could use to fast travel from a location to an other.

Mounts are like cupholders. They are ingenious methods of salesmanship designed to distract the customer from more jejune issues.

Yeah, don't really miss em, they're really only useful in open-world games and even then they're often more trouble than they're worth (Oblivion). I however would like to see them in game just not as a game feature.

Since Oblivion and Two Worlds each had horses, would you have wanted them in Dragon Age as well?

Two World's horses where as dumb as a lamp post.  They couldn't even walk over a 2 INCH BUMP.

Oblivion horses were useless because of fast travel.  Great for getting killed in battle though.

Honestly, for this kind of game, no horses for me.

I enjoyed the horse in Shadow of Colossus. That horse was awesome. I also enjoy horses in real life, but AI technology in games isn't at the level yet to truly show how horses act and think... or how stubborn they can be.

Gah, I hated the way horses were implemented in Oblivion... and I'm a huge TES fan :P If I can control my character on a horse exactly the way I control it when I'm off the horse, and if the horse can teleport to me anywhere so if I decide to travel by portal or underground tunnel or swimming or whatever it will stay with me, and if I don't have to get off my horse for ANYTHING... ok. (Pretty much the way Sacred 2 implements horses, or at least, class mounts.) But that completely kills realism and the whole point.

Of course, as a girl I went to a summer camp that had horses... and I didn't like horses even back then, at age 12 when all the other girls were gaga over them... so maybe I'm just permanently anti-horse ;)

gotta agree w/ both posts.

also, while I loved M&B, I'm not sure if mounted combat would look real nice in a game like DA:O.

And you would need to buy like a bunch of other horses for your whole party. Would get a bit messy on the screen, I guess.

In Oblivion I really enjoyed horses, even if they were weak, not very intelligent and disappeared most of the time. - My character still used only his fast black horse for any kind of traveling. It was just too much fun... Most of the time I was just riding around in the game, doing sidequests. Plus when I didn't feel like giving random encounters the joy of combat I just rode past them...

But I am sure I won't miss riding in DA:O. We have one trusted, optional animal companion, I don't need a horse following me around or getting into the way of battle, just like in Oblivion, in which the enemies on the road decided that my horse was a much bigger threat than my character.. standing around, looking all-equine... not doing any damage to them... but you never know how an AI - programmed brain works, right? Maybe they thought the horse would spill candy if hit often enough...?

Horses are nice when a game is designed around them from the start (Mount & Blade, perhaps the latest Zelda as well). Otherwise, they're fairly useless and actually end up annoying me, like in Oblivion.

I remember saying waaaaay back, 2004 timeframe, I'm sure, on the pre-DA news topic or perhaps the original DA forums that I felt RPGs like this should be going beyond what was the norm then and offering features like horses/mounts. My thought then was that, if they didn't, they'd be making a game that was lacking something intrinsic to the genre (roleplaying in an immersive world).

Nowadays, I'm neutral about horses/mounts. They helped build the feel of a real world in a game like Oblivion, with its seamless design. In a game like DA:O, I expect horses would simply stick out as being odd as you race to the next loading screen. The style of the game matters and I'm not even going to miss them in DA:O.

Well, I can live without them - after all, I enjoyed Baldur's Gate 1+2, NWN, Jade Empire etc ... and none had horses.

But ... yes, I would have liked horses or other rideable creatures. I'm confident that someone will be able to mod them sooner or later.

I think the thing I miss most from old RPGs is enemy variety. Is it just me or have RPGs lately only had like 5 different enemies or so? Supposedly Dragon Age has something closer to 20 or so, so thats good. Thats what killed me in Oblivion and Fallout 3; repetitiveness (in both enemy, environment, and combat)

To stay on topic, Horses are not welcome in my Dragon Age. I expect any and all future games with mounts to equal or surpass Mount & Blades horse mechanic, or ill be angry.

I think horses could provide a nice fast travel method. You could have them pinned by your camp and when you click on them, you'd get a map view with different places to visit .

I'm almost certain that the vast majority of travel will be handled on a world map anyway, and if DA:O stays true to the old formula of "Even if mankind is hanging onto live by a thread, the forces of evil are marching on the capital, and every second counts, there's still time to pick some flowers for the local alchemist, find a child's stolen teddy-bear in a goblin cave, and fix the roof of Ms. Harper's house", time (And accordingly, a speed increase for reaching locations) won't matter either...

Yes, we already know how the map system is laid out and it's similar toBG or NWN2.

Also, what does this have to do with my post?

I didn't know mounts weren't included, although it doesn't mean they couldn't be added at some point (as they were in Neverwinter Nights). It'll depend on how the custom content system ends up having been developed. I will want to create pegasus mounts for my mod work if I continue it in DA, so if that's not possible for some reason then I will miss them, yes.

If I have to run around here and there, then I'll need one.

But this game seems that you don't need a lot of running and automated combat may make having combat while mounting look weird.

You know, nobody has thought of the real reason there are no horses in-game: how is a little dwarf wearing heavy armor ever going to mount it?
