I'm new to this game, very new. Haven't even finished it yet but it's becoming difficult to continue because whichever character I am controlling wants to run off on his/her own. This is obviously making combat ridiculously more difficult as whoever I'm viewing will turn and run into a wall.
It's not my controller, I have tested other games and I haven't come across this. I've also switched controllers and the problem is still there on DA:O but no other game.
I've wiki'ed the glitch but couldn't find anything, Does anyone have any ideas? Really want to sort it out if possible so I can continue the game.

I've never experienced this or heard of it.
Are you talking about the actual character you're controlling, or one of the companions?
Companion I may have a reason for - character you control, really sounds like a controller config issue . . .

Whoever I'm controlling at the time it happens to. Companion or my own character. But I have now tested both controllers on MW2 and Metro 2033 with no similar problem.
DA:O has become unplayable, it's started doing it literally after every attack. One swing of the staff then running into a wall.

Hmmm . . really sounds like a controller issue . . . are you sure you didn't somehow change the controller settings without realizing it?

I have considered that but really what setting could I have changed that would cause this? I looked through the settings quickly, nothing was obvious.
My sensitivity is put to minimum, that's the only thing I have changed. But if that is the cause surely more people would have heard of it by now.

dont know - the only time ive ever had that kind of problem in any game was when i accidentally changed the controller config to an alternate setting without realizing it.
Only other thing I can think to suggest would be to check the batteries in the controller - might be it

I really wish that was the answer but my battery is full and it would have affected other games if it was the battery power. Bloody mystery, a very annoying one at that. I've just got into it and now I can't play.

Sorry I couldn't help - hope someone else can - the game really is damn good.

No worries, Thanks for replying anyway. I'm going to try restoring all settings to default just in case. If that doesn't work, I'm completely baffled.

Ha! I had forgotten mine did that all the time too although maybe not quite to the extent as yours. I'm not sure if DA is just set up more sensitive than other games or what but I just got used to quickly counteracting my possessed character's movements. Also, yelling at the TV helps.

Mine will walk in the opposite direction now and again .. and by walk I mean walk .. not run like the OP is suggesting, I assumed it was just my controller but now that you think of it .. it doesn't happen in other games. Perhaps the SNS above is right, it's a sensitivity thing.

It's totally a 'sensitivity' issue...
Certain controllers don't seem to home quite centered... This is fine in like 95% of games... But Dragon Age seems to pick up on it... One of my other games notices too, but I can't remember which offhand... I run left into things all the damn time...
I've had two that are like this... This one worse than my last... But this one is the Gamestop Special Edition (nice red inlayed biohazard symbol on black controller) so I'm hesitant to just say 'replace it!'
Annoys the crap out of me, as it will override spellcasting, potion drinking, etc... The moment you pop out of the radial menu, suddenly you're walking left.
Left 4 Dead 2, Alan Wake, Bioshock 2, none of my other big-plays seem to notice or care that my controller's not quite built right... Just Dragon Age...
