How Do You Trigger Leliana's Quest?

I've been a Mass Effect fan since 2007 when ME1 first came out, but I thought I'd buy Dragon Age and try it out  this August, since I have nothing else to play at the moment. I bought Origins and Awakening together, downloaded almost all DLC and am enjoying the game a lot. However, something has been baffling me, and that's Leliana's personal quest -- or, in ME2 terms, Leliana's loyalty mission. :P

Anyway, I've completed Shale's, Alistair's, Sten's, and Morrigan's, and I've been trying so hard to get Leliana's but no luck. I'm at the point where I'm supposed to start the Landsmeet mission, since I've recruited everyone and visited every place marked on the world map. And still, I can't get Leliana's quest to trigger. Her approval rate is very high, and everything is as good as it gets. Yet, no quest for me. I really don't want the game to place me at the point of no return until I make sure I've completed all of my companions' quests. Leliana's simply refuses to trigger; I've even exhausted all possible dialog with her (again, all approved) and still, nothing.

Should I continue with the Landsmeet and return to her? I'm pretty far into the game and I'm afraid of being put in a situation where I can't go back to anything, hence why I want to complete everyone's quest before something like that happens.

Here are the steps to trigger Leliana's quest:

1) Select the dialogue option "I've heard that in Orlais, minstrels are often spies."

2) Eventually upon returning to camp, she'll initiate a dialogue with you admitting that she lied about why she left Orlais. It should be the next time you return, unless a different companion's cut scene takes priority.

3) Travel with Leliana in your party to trigger a random event that gives you the quest.

There is a bug where you can miss out on the dialogue option about minstrels being spies if you get her approval too high too quickly, but I believe the latest patch should have fixed that. If you think that might have happened though and you have the Feastday gifts and pranks DLC you can play around with her approval that way. Use the pranks to lower her approval until the dialogue option appears and then use the gifts to bring it back up again.

First of all, thank you for answering!

I actually think her approval is a little too high for a companion whose quest hasn't been completed yet. I'm also fairly certain I had the conversation in question with her already, but I can't remember whether or not I selected that specific dialog option. If I play around with her approval, will that bring up new dialog options by any chance, allowing me a second chance to try and trigger her quest?

I think at this point there is nothing I can do with her. Her approval is high, but she's pretty much "just there". Zero dialog, zero interaction, no quest. I'm not sure if it's even possible to trigger her quest at this point, but I hope I'm wrong.

Hmmm...It's possible you missed it. Check her codex entry. If you had the required conversations it should be updated to reflect it. It'll mention she was a bard and also the reason why she was forced to leave Orlais. If you did miss it, lowering her approval enough should get it to appear.

If you get Leliana too happy (above 70 I think) before having triggered her quest, it will never happen.

Okay, I just tried, and it seems there is no way I will get her quest anymore. This is so depressing; she's the only companion whose quest I haven't completed. All because she's "too happy"? Ugh, I was hoping to romance her, too. Oh well, my mess, and I can't even clean it up.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

If you really want to do the Leli quest. Buy the Feastday DLC. Use a prank to drop her approval. The quest should then become available. That quest is terribly buggy. I have missed it even being pretty careful.

I've done some research and it does seem that Leliana's quest IS bugged somehow. I do have the Feastday gifts, but I have yet to try the trick you mentioned.

Its not that difficult to trigger.

Just talk to her and never offer gifts until she admits to having been a bard.

If you are on PC there is a mod that repairs the dialouge.
