So whenever I fire up the Aurora Toolset I get these errors:

Access violation at address ________ in module 'atioglxx.dll'.  Read of address ________.
Access violation at address ________ in module 'ntdll.dll'.  Read of address ________.

I did some tweaking of the ini files and managed to fix the problem by disabling Display Shadows and UseGameTexturePack, however when I try to use the CEP in the Toolset I get the same error, especially when firing up an item editor.

The specs of my video card are as follows:
ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4670
Driver Packaging Version: 8.631-090625a-084071C-Dell
Catalyst™ Version: 09.7
Provider: ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version: 8.01.01.921
Direct3D Version: 8.14.10.0678
OpenGL Version: 6.14.10.8784
Catalyst™ Control Center Version: 2010.0706.2128.36662

Any help I could get would be much appreciated.

The first dll is a problem with NWN digesting the ATI driver. You can try following the directions provided here to replace your current dll. That fix is more for the nwn explorer than the toolset, but what the hey, it may help.
Have found nothing addressing the second dll, however.
Seems an incapability issue with the Catalyst so scour this and the legacy Tech forum for similar issues/prospective fixes for your particular configuration.
More complete specs would probably be helpful, as well. OS? 32-bit or 64-bit? Compatibility version? Game version & patch?
Laptops seem to have more of these problems, especially with OEM cards. Dunno.
Also, you may get better results in the custom content forum if this problem stems from the CEP.

In any case, stick with it. Help usually appears in waves. ;)

So I figured out the ntdll.dll problem: an incorrectly installed CEP 2.3 caused missing graphics to occur. After a complete and correct reinstall the problems have been cleared out. Still no luck with the atioglxx.dll, though.

I thought I was onto something by turning down the textures, but that also turned out to be a bust.

If you're running the Catalyst Control Panel. Find and disable the Catalyst AI. I remember it being a big issue for older generation ATI cards, and sometimes could cause problems.

For issues on atioglxx.dll see this thread from the old forums

Never had any crash problems related to the ATI drivers nor hardware, but then again, I can only speak

for windows XP and Vista both 32 bit.

I see you're using ATI CAT v9.7, I'm currently running v10.8

My be worth a try to install other driver versions.

Could you send me the atioglxx.dll of that driver version?

Solved the problem! Setting the Toolset to not display shadows in areas did it! :D

EDIT: An update to this; it was also needed to turn of "Use environment mapping for Creatures and Items", otherwise the toolset would crash when selecting the blueprint of a creature.

Unfortunately, placing waypoints is causing that same error. I found where to deactivate the Catalyst AI, did that, but it didn't change a thing.

Did you try turning off all the other operating features (sounds, placeables, etc) while placing the waypoints?

No; just tried it now and it didn't work. But turning off "Show Waypoints" worked :D

This more or less solves my problem, since the toolset only crashes if, when opening an area, there are waypoints in it, but if I place waypoints while already editing that area, it doesn't crash.

The only thing I can't place now are sounds, because when those are placed, they crash the toolset right away. But, compared to waypoints, it's a minor thing.

Thanks a bunch!

Unfortunately, a few tilesets are crashing the toolset, and some way points crash the toolset even before changing areas. I don't understand why this is happening at all. The game itself works flawlessly, why would the toolset crash then?

Having given up on ever getting the toolset working in Win 7 with my Radeon HD 4670 I did an update of my video card driver yesterday and the toolset works perfectly.
