Will I need to buy DA for the mac, or will my PC version work on the mac?  Will I need to buy the downloadable content again?  Will I be able to use the Nexus mods & transport my current characters over?  Thanks for any help, I realy don't know much about MACs

Another question - can you use the toolset on a MAC?

I own two Macs myself and love them, but for gaming I can only suggest using Boot Camp and installing Windows on a 2nd partition, then use the PC version of the game. Especially on a Mac which never use the latest and greatest graphics cards, you'll want the maximum of performance you can squeeze out of the hardware, and the original Windows games always run faster than the Mac versions, because they're optimized for DirectX.

Same goes for the toolset, but that's only available for Windows anyway. Boot Camp is your friend.

If you have a Mac and buy the PC version you must run it in bootcamp - something I would never do. Just buy the Mac version, it runs beautifully for me. The only thing you cannot access is the toolset, however Mods work perfectly fine, I use tons of them myself.

Edit: I use Mods from dragonagenexus.com and you will want to install Modazipin.

Congratulations on purchasing your first mac. You have a few options

If you have a full-install copy of windows, any of these will do:
windows xp Home edition or professional with service pack 2 or later(32-bit version only) or Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate, or Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate, you can install it on your mac using Boot Camp.

Complete instructions can be found here http://manuals.info....-Setup_10.6.pdf

By doing this you won't have to buy the mac version and you will be able to use the toolset. You will also be able to install and play other pc games that were never released for mac like mass effect. The downside is that you will have two operating systems on your mac so anytime you are in os X and want to play your PC game you will have to restart your computer and boot up into windows.

If you don't have a full copy of windows then it is really up to you to decide if getting a copy of windows makes sense.

You could always purchase the mac digital deluxe version for $39.95 from gametree or direct2drive. But be aware that as it is a ciderized game, essentially a wine wrapper, performance is reduced slightly.  Also while many have been playing Dragon Age without any problems some like myself have encountered freezing, slowdowns, and exception raised crashing. I've been lucky to have it not happen too often, a few days and many hours of game play between crashes, but some people have posted such problems happening all the time.

Just out of curiosity: Is the Windows version known to be crash-free? (That would be a first...)

Try out Crossover Games from http://www.codeweavers.com/

Try the demo, and install what is called C4p file.
http://www.codeweave...me/?app_id=6580
It will help with the installation of Dragon Age.

Let us know how it works out for you...:)

A friendly volunteer trying to get Crossover Games to work even better with Dragon Age by testing and letting people know about the things I figure out. I do this because it is easier to install one program then having to install bootcamp and windows (or parallells/Fusion and windows) or so I believe.

I tried Crossover Games back in January and it had some sierious freeze and "black texture" issues. I was only able to run DA:O at the lowest settings for "graphics quality", since higher settings would crash immediately, and even then the performance.

It seems to have improved, but the "silver" performance category means there are still compatibility issues. It's not quite clear whether Framebuffer and/or high graphic settings has to be disabled, but this would take away a lot of the visual quality of the game.

Basically, Crossover, like Cider, is a proprietary version of the free WINE environment. They have adapted the code for specific games, but the architecture behind them is still WINE.

If you are adventurous, and know your way around Unix and Terminal, you may even try Wine. It's free and apparently, DA:O runs with some graphic glitches (no Anti-aliasing).

Try Crossover and see if you like it. For my part, I didn't.

For a full, hassle-free experience, either buy the Mac version (easiest way, but without toolset) or run the Windows version in BootCamp (which means several GB of hard disk space for a Windows partition, and a Windows copy, and (NOOO!) a Windows installation on your nice, clean Mac. :pinched:).

The Mac version has been running flawlessly on my MacBook  since patch 1.0.4, but others seem to have problems.

You can transfer your characters from Win to Mac as you like.
