You
got me thinking - wouldn't a spin-off series set in a dark Renaissance
be awesome ? It would be truly epic pitting the last blight against an
industrial Theldas. Ranks of darkspawn advancing under Gatling gun fire ?
Cannon armed golem battle ogres for the control of deep roads ? Fleets
of Airships struggle for the ultimate destiny of the Imperium ? It
cannot fail to be awesome. As for a name, I'd simply call it The Iron Age

think
of it - there hasn't been much dark fantasy treatment of the
renaissance/industrial age other then FMA ... And since machines are
immune to the taint, they would provide the ultimate solutions against
the darkspawns.

A lot of people have posted something similar, would you support such an idea? Other than pitting 19th/early 20th century technology against magic and dark spawn, several other thing would be interesting (assuming that the game is based on the real world), like:

What would romance and playing a female or gay/lesbian character be like in a world that is openly homophobic, thinks all women belong in the kitchen and repressive of all open expressions of sexuality?

How would elves be treated, considering racism by the Victorian/Edwardian age is considered not only "scientific" but progressive?

How would the dynamics of the game play out in an upstairs/downstairs world that filled with nationalism and potentially on the verge of class revolution?

How would people react to the blight in a world that is highly secularized?

More exotic cultures, weapons etc. If Thedas follows European colonialism, I'm sure Denerem would be filled with people from all over the empire.

What do you think? If enough agree, maybe Bioware devs would give this some serious consideration.

Dark Renaissance is different than Victorian/Edwardian. I'm a little burnt out on the Steampunk thing recently but it could be interesting if done right. Maybe in the future? I'd like to spend a lot more time in the Dragon Age before we get there, however.

If that's the case,  I'll retract my previous comment.

I think it would be fun to play a game set in an industrial age themed Thedas that still had the fantasy and magic elements intact. But, I would hope that they would keep the world their own and not parallel history too much. They do a good job of this in DA:O.

I'd support it. I'm sick of the majority of fantasy games being stuck in the Medieval time period.

Although I'd love a neolithic fantasy game too. Hell... anything that isn't Medieval.

I'd prefer for it to be its own franchise, and not DA's.

It's probably not happening anytime soon but The Secret World  might not be too different concept-wise. Can't wait to have a taste of it.

Besides, RAGNAR TORNQUIST.

Its a great idea for its own stand alone franchise but it would just be strange and confusing introducing it into DA.

Nahhh. I like DA the way it is. I'm just not that fond of steam punk.

This.

I loves me some Steampunk, but I like the DA world as it is.  A huge change like that would just feel wrong.

It's an idea. Not necessarily a game set in Thedas, but one written in a new setting by Bioware? Why not?

Nope. The Dragon Age world does not move parallel to this one. This is bioware's creation and it is up to them to create the history not plagarize from real history.

Steampunk is also heavily overplayed. Make the history of this world unqiue.

I agree... seems a bit like jumping on a bandwagon. It could be good, but I too want more time in the world as currently presented.
