You
got me thinking - wouldn't a spin-off series set in a dark Renaissance
be awesome ? It would be truly epic pitting the last blight against an
industrial Theldas. Ranks of darkspawn advancing under Gatling gun fire ?
Cannon armed golem battle ogres for the control of deep roads ? Fleets
of Airships struggle for the ultimate destiny of the Imperium ? It
cannot fail to be awesome. As for a name, I'd simply call it The Iron Age

think
of it - there hasn't been much dark fantasy treatment of the
renaissance/industrial age other then FMA ... And since machines are
immune to the taint, they would provide the ultimate solutions against
the darkspawns.

A lot of people have posted something similar, would you support such an idea? Other than pitting 19th/early 20th century technology against magic and dark spawn, several other thing would be interesting (assuming that the game is based on the real world), like:

What would romance and playing a female or gay/lesbian character be like in a world that is openly homophobic, thinks all women belong in the kitchen and repressive of all open expressions of sexuality?

How would elves be treated, considering racism by the Victorian/Edwardian age is considered not only "scientific" but progressive?

How would the dynamics of the game play out in an upstairs/downstairs world that filled with nationalism and potentially on the verge of class revolution?

How would people react to the blight in a world that is highly secularized?

More exotic cultures, weapons etc. If Thedas follows European colonialism, I'm sure Denerem would be filled with people from all over the empire.

What do you think? If enough agree, maybe Bioware devs would give this some serious consideration.

That would be ridiculous, it would be like a more terrible version of mass effect.

Fable looks like a game for kids, and it doesn't have the complex fighting moves of DA. Shooters don't allow for close up combat either. Plus, why is the choice in RPGs always between swords or assault weapons? There has to be something in between the 2. I'd like to shoot something completely different from the kids toys on Fable and high tech guns, something that more powerful than Fable guns but not powerful enough to allow some close up fighting with non-projectiles and prevent the game from turning into a pure shooter. Steampunk type weapons or real late 19th/early 20th century weapons (pre-automatic) like bolt or lever action rifles or revolvers might do the job.

And Fable isn't a dark fantasy.

An updated not nerfed version of Arcanum would be cool. Dragon Age? NO. In fact I hate all those death of magic - rise of science stories.
