Not that I've been able to find, but is there a codex anywhere that explains how all the galactic species understand each other? By the time Mass Effect starts, Humanity has only existed to the knowledge of the council for around 200 years, not every species can speak English. Scanning one of the planets reveal that something was written in Russian on a planet's surface, which means multiple languages still exist on Earth, presumably meaning half of humanity doesn't understand what the other is saying either.

If there is an explanation, please tell me! It's a little sad, but this has been bothering me a lot (got a broken foot, so can't do much else xD).

Mass effect wiki is VERY useful for these questions. There is an auto-translator in everyone's omni tool that allows species to understand each other.

Ahhh thanks! I tried looking around, but as I never got the DLC (Halls of Residence doesn't allow XBL) I didn't know where to look.

There is also an additional explanation in Ascension, and FemShep references her translator while talking to Thane at some point during the romance with him.

Of course, the translator doesn't explain why the aliens are all lip-synced to the English words, or how people like the turian Councilor or Grunt understand grammatical aspects of the English language like quotation marks.

The translator is just a magic wand in the end.

The lip-syncing thing is just something you have to accept, MK.

In short.. thats videogame language for you.. Plenty of games do that.. But I gotta agree that it would be nice if they came up with a good explanation.. Even if it was just something like the Salarians coming up with a device that translates all the spoken stuff..

I guess they took a page from Nancy McIntyre and decided that semi-realistic alien languages with subtitles provided was simply "too much reading".

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're off by a few years.

Humans have only been part of the galactic community for about 30 years.

When playing Female Shep and romancing Thane, Thane will adress Shep as "Siha." in with Shep responds "I think my translater just glitched, what did you call me?"

So I'm asuming everyone has a translator somewhere implanted in they're brain.

Maybe if you'd been willing to look just a few short posts above you, you could have read that.
The same goes for everyone else that's still wondering how it works, actually.

Mass Effect 1: Platinum Hits has Bring Down the Sky DLC on a second disc. It was the only good DLC for ME1, but your probably not that desperate for ME content. That reminds me, why wasn't that codex entry indcluded with all the other ME1 codex entries in ME2?
