My game will play fine for about an hour and then it will begin minimizing to the desktop at random intervals. Sometimes while I'm running, sometimes when my character is just standing around. Usually it happend right after I arrive somewhere new.
And once it starts up, it happens about every ten minutes or so until I finally exit.
Restarting the game results in the same - good for a little over an hour, then it starts all over again. I'm not pressing the windows key on my keyboard, which is the only thing I know of that should make the game minimize.
I have Vista, 2 gigs of RAM, and my graphics card is nvidia geforce 9800 gtx+
Game keeps minimizing itself randomly

Only thing I can think of is another program minimizing the game in order to pop up a window or something, maybe do a spyware / virus check (probably unlikely but don't have many more ideas).

Aye. Got the same problem.
There are no external processes (or drivers) that forces this on my system. It seems to be the game itself. I think it happened after I patched the game to 1.01 or when i downloaded Shale. Since I'm using him in my main party I haven't tried to remove the addon.
Running windows XP pro (32 bit).

Nice to see I'm not alone with this issue. It's a pain when it happens in the middle of combat :-/.
It started happening after I downloaded the patch too, so I guess another issue for the Bioware Patch crew.
Tried logging off at the start menu, but it had no effect so I guess the flakey uploading of screenshots etc isn't the issue.

I'm glad it's not just me. I haven't downloaded a patch or any content at all. And I don't have antivirus or any other programs running while I play. Anyone finds a solution, please update in this thread, thanks!

Same here. I think it might have started after I installed AVG 9 free edition. Anyone of you using that program?

I play in a window so I have not had that problem. When someone IMs me, it doesn't affect the game.
Any program that opens a visible or hidden window that grabs focus even for a split second for whatever reason will likely cause the full screen to exit (minimizing the game). The common solution to this is to close all programs including background programs or play in a window. Some background programs cannot be turned off so easily, however.

Yeah I wasn't running anything else but my firewall and anti-virus. So I'm thinking one of these is the culprit. Problem is I patched the game pretty much at the same time I upgraded AVG to version 9 so i'm not sure if it's a patch thing or something else.
I can log on the my account when I play so I don't think it's my firewall, and I get no pop-up window from anything when the game minimizes. Worse thing is the game doesn't pause or anything. Guess I should make sure all my "tactics" are set correctly in case because yesterday by the time i clicked back in my mage got pounced by an ogre

I upgraded to AVG 9.0 about the same time as well. I never really considered it as it seemed to be a firewall issue.
Here's hoping it's the issue and an easy fix.

I'm thinking it could be the video card too, I have a nvidia 260, with 191.07 drivers. Do some of you have ATI/AMD with the same problem?

I would think it would pop up a window if it was the firewall though. I'll have to check if i have latest version of firewall tonight.

Just checked the AVG 9.0 free forums, its doing it for other programs as well about every 30 minutes according to some posters there. No sign of a fix there yet.

HURRAY!!! I really hope this was the problem, I'll set up my AVG when I get home and see.
It's not a major problem but it is irritating so I hope this works.
U guys have fun stopping the Blight!!

already put the quicklaunch (link and exe) and the DA:O folder on the exception list in AVG (Free) 9.0's resident shield, but it still minimizes.

Yea I started having this problem after upgrading to AVG9 as well, a temporary fix is to close the AVG tray process in the task manager, hopefully AVG will have a fix soon.

I don't have AVG. And I don't have any programs at all running in the background, no firewall, nothing. Only DA:O.
Earlier today I turned off automatic login, and all the auto options like auto uploading screenshots, and after that I've played for over an hour without the game minimizing to tray. I don't know if that is the solution, but after I did that I haven't had any problems. I'll play some more now and see if the problem comes back.
