AVG is terrible. try Microsoft Security Essentials. Wayyy lighter on resources and its not a bother to use.

AVG 9 is the problem, any full screen game or application has this issue. AVG is aware of it, as there are several posts on the AVG forums addressing it. The 9.0.707 update for today did not fix it.

Awesome, I'm glad you guys figured it out! I was going crazy trying to figure out what was minimizing my game.

You fellows are legends. I was already mulling over getting rid of AVG after this latest woeful and bloated version and this has just sealed its fate. Hello Microsoft Security Essentials! =)
EDIT: Careful if you're using Zone Alarm. MSE conflicts with it and subsequently causes system lock ups on start-up, as I found out the hard way last night. Either go for a different anti-virus or ditch Zone Alarm.

Hey everyone.
I had a similar issue with my machine that I managed to resolved. here's a brief rundown of my PC's specs:
Windows XP Professional SP3
Q6600 Quad-Core CPU
ATI Radeon 4980HD
Dragon Age: Origins Patch 1.01a
2GB DDR2
AVG 9.0
From what I read in a similar post, this issue is similar to the random crashing issues with other ATI cards, particularly those with Catalyst drivers beyond 9.7. First I tried the patch itself, which did not resolve the issue. The next thing I tried was reverting the ATI driver from 9.10 (the current driver as of writing this article) to 9.7. Since then, my system has been stable with no more random minimizing.
Hope this helps!

Ok but what about people who don't have AVG or an ATI card, who are still having the problem? Is anyone else like this?

A bunch of rundll32, stuff I don't know what they are but say SYSTEM under User Name like "csrss.exe", and that's pretty much it. I don't have any programs open while I play.

I've been having this problem recently to. I have the latest patch and AVG 9.0. Weird thing is, I got them both while I was playing through the first time on DA:O and never had these random minimizations. Started playing my second character after I beat the game, and I get these all the freakin' time! I'll try the AVG resident shield exclusion trick and see if that helps.

I've been getting this just recently. I'm in camp giving gifts to my party in DA:O, and the game just starts minimizing over and over, and I can't keep it open for more than a few moments.
This started as soon as I set it to upload screenshots. I do not have AVG. I'll turn off those options and see what happens.

I have vista and on any given day at least one of a random assortment of program windows that I am using will minimise, or maximise or randomly change size in some fashion, it's not the game it's the OS.

I have vista, and this never happens with other games.
I shut off "upload screenshots" and DA stopped minimizing.

It doesn't just happen to me with games, it happens on a random basis. Curiously - (touch wood) - it's not happened with DA.BellaStrega wrote...
