*UPDATED.  If you care why, see here.*

Bunch of stuff from the Prologue sections: SR-1, Lazarus, Freedom's Progress, and TIM's post-FP debrief.  Nearly all of it is cut tutorial dialogue, which I did my best to make at least somewhat interesting, given that as a rule, tutorials aren't.   You can tell that Lazarus station was once pretty different in at least some areas, and there are hints that the layered protection system had a couple extra wrinkles to it at one time:

And yes, I did pick on Miranda a lot.  But no, I don't hate her, it was just a convenient gimmick. If someone else had gotten stuck with all that dialogue, I'd have made just as much fun of them.  So if you feel all tempted to start white-knighting for her sullied honor...don't.

The amount of hand holding in the cut tutorial pieces is a bit frightening, how dumb did they think we were at the time :P

I think the idea was that since the gameplay changed so much, they were going to make it a lore thing where Shepard is kind of "wtf - everything works differently now; you want me to re-what my gun?" etc.

Want heavy weapons ammo? "SFXGame.SFXHeavyWeapon/bCanDropAmmo=True" in the coalesced.ini, and you're done - dead enemies can drop heavy weapon ammo cartridges. Personally, I've set the default weapon drop as "false" and overheat to true, makes micromanaging ammo moe interesting.

I've always wondered why enemies who are obviously using heavy weapons don't drop power cells?

Love hearing these unused audio files.

Good Lord. Did the designers know what the devil they were doing?

Considering how many people do not read manuals the amount of tutorial dialog does seem about par for a lot of games we get nowadays plus it does save printing something that could be out of date by the time the game gets released. So while I would have found it annoying on my 2nd and higher playthrough it would have made some sense on the first.

Games always change so much during production. I don't even want to talk about Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker. They both changed so much in development. SO MUCH. I like the unused audio files though.

... I bet that door would have made a worthy final boss. "It's not just a Reaper. It's a Reaper Door!"

Exactly. I'd be willing to make a gentlemen's bet that these inconsistencies are present just so Bioware could (forgive me for the sports analogy) "cover all the bases".

To simplify-- So that they could change the basic layout of the game to any side of their proposed spectrum without having to call back the pricey voice actors.

My favorite example isn't by Molyneaux:

Well, it's my favorite in that what it was SUPPOSED to be woulda been awesome, and what it ended up being was just decent.  It's a shame too, I worshipped that developing house - the ones who made Wing Commander and Privateer, etc.  Gone now.

/talk about a misleading subtitle on the box

The strange thing about Freelancer is that it would have (under normal circumstances) have been considered a good (and by good, I mean slightly better than decent) game. But when combined with the hype it received, the rave reviews for it's early--E3 builds, the ambitious promises, and, of course, the prestigious studio it came from; the thoughts of what-could-have-been made the final product seem a million times worse than it was.

That Door fight would've been epic. Instead we got a crappy heavy mech. :-(
