After playing ME1 on PC for quite some time, I have been getting "out of virtual memory" errors.

I don't have a very large hard drive, and I have quite a bit of information on it...  but it does currently show 66 GB free.

I also have 7 GB of RAM and 1.5 GB of VRAM.

This past crash, when I ctrl-alt-del'd, I looked at the system resources, and it was only showing around 2.5 GB of RAM being used, yet the error was that it was out of virtual memory. Why is it even paging virtual memory at that usage?

Having this happen during the UNC: Besieged Base mission as well. Whenever I kill the last of the terrorists, actually.

Seems other have had similar issues in the past: http://meforums.biow...32220&forum=127

Though there's a massive lack of support from Bioware to fix it. Which is a shame. With ME3 coming out, there are gonna be plenty that want to replay the series to get that "ideal" playthrough.

Neither yourself, or OP, has made a proper error report, and as the forum description clearly states, official support is handled by EA on their website.
If you want help from here, post a proper report, if you want official support, go deal with EA.
Read this thread to find out whasts needed to post a proper report.

The Pagefile is used as a matter of standard procedure by almost all Windows software, and when it is badly fragmented, becomes problematic.  Windows (32-bit versions) want you to assign 1 1/2 times your RAM figure to its Pagefile; if you have a "small" pagefile set up, that can create problems for many programs.  I don't think you are allowed to reduce Windows' use of the Pagefile in 64-bit versions.  The VRAM isn't a factor unless you have the 32-bit OS, and 4 GB of that 7 GB would be wasted in a 32-bit OS.

Chances are that you haven't defragmented in a very long time, and it is way overdue.  See if that isn't what is needful.

I purposely ignored the piggyback comment, and I know the original was very old. Digging up corpses in the graveyard is a poor practice. When it has no answer nor partial answer to your thread, it should be left alone.
