I feel like BioWare's tried non-party member romances.  Kelly Chambers, arguably Anora and city elf (though those take up all of five minutes), Aribeth, Aarin Gend...generally, they seem pretty bleh to me at this point.  Though that may also be a produce of me personally not LIKING most of those characters other than Kelly and Nelaros :D

I wouldn't even call most of these romances.

I'd say Kelly, Aribeth, and Aarin Gend qualify.  You certainly get your nuzzle on with Kelly.  Aribeth and Aarin were intended--unless I'm mistaken--as your romance interests.  And I was decidedly meh on them.  I found Aribeth's quite creepy, in fact, given what had just happened to Fenthick.

Aribeth und Gend perhaps, but there is no romance between Kelly and Shepard. They are nice to each other and have something like an ONS, if Sheps somehow ends up to be alone.

Okay, you might say they develop a romance during their diner together, but since we're never really told, what they talked about, I wouldn't count that.

1) More options is always good. Dont want an elven romance? Good, thats why they should put in a human or dwarf romance. Want an elf romance? Good, that option should be there too.
Nobody should attack the idea of an option, unless that option will take away choices for you. And this will not be the case. There is no way there wont be a human romance option (imo). So there is no reason to fear an elven female romance option. Because it is just that. AN OPTION!

Romance zots are not infinite. To have a romanceable character, you first have to have an appropriate party-member. So the writing team has to write a female elf. Then, there has to be a sensible plot-hook for them to be in the party. Then, independent characterization and VO. A companion quest. Then, finally, the romance culmination.

So take DA:O as an example. If you write a character like Sten, and potentially wanted to have him as a romance option, you'd really plausibly only need a bit more dialogue (given how romances worked in DA:O). But if you wanted a female elf romance, you would first need a female elf companion.

Essentially, the cost of an elven female option is any other party member that would have filled up the companion slot. Which isn't to say that this might be a lot, just important to point out that it is not something done at no cost.

Bioware has already said there will be one of each major race in DA2. That includes elf. And as we have a male elf last time....

Its not like its unlikely or farfetched for them to have planned a female elf to be in your party anyways.

You guys won't give us a female/elf/romance because Hawke is to hairy for the epicness of the elves baldness. I have seen through this lie.

Petite girls with smooth skin love to cuddle up the the hairy chest of a manly man.
I know this for a fact.

Kelly I'd describe as more of a fling than a romance.

When did they say this? I suppose they already have humans and dwarf party member so there is a chance of us still getting an elf.

Indeed. I don't recall them saying they'd have one of each major race as a companion.

When I heard in DAO that Iona was a elf and that you could bang her. I totally made a new Noble to hit that. xp

I'd really like a dwarf woman, but I'd definately pick elf over human. Especially if they've fixed the problem of 'elf ears can't be seen with long hair'

Sadly...I don't think this is going to happen. I'm not sure in what thread or how long ago it was, but Gaider once jumped into a discussion very similar to this, i.e. Why didn't we have an Elven LI, aside from Zevran who almost didn't count as an Elf, and his explanation, basically, came down to, "The reason there were no Elven LIs is because Elven LIs are cliche and boring. They've been done to death in Fantasy." It was an argument that was a "wee" bit hollow considering you can find plenty of Fantasy novels and even games were the Hero has romanced women of all types.

"wee bit hollow"? More like extreamely hollow, and hypocritical seeing as the type of characters that Bioware use share very similiar qualities in like, oh idk, all of their games? Give me a break <_<

Really?  Gaider said that?  The guy who wrote The Stolen Throne - with the hot elf LI for Maric?

Meh, I just hope we get an attractive female LI.

Not to mention Isabela already has too many past relationships, lol.  Aveline as a love interest would probably suffer from "Carth Syndrome".  A clean slate female elf would be nice. :)

No, David didn't say anything like that. Attributing crap to him and then calling him names for it probably isn't the way to win him to your side.

I could more or less say that about any romance presented in books, games, and movies.  So what?

Even though he admited to saying such in this very thread. That and where did I ever call him a name? I am stating facts. If he did say this then that would be indeed hypocritical. Don't jump to conclusions.

Meh, I went with the quote.

Besides, whether there is or is not a female elf LI has already been decided - I would hope.  So I doubt people could "get him on their side" to put one in at this point.

And he did write tST.  WIth a hot elf LI.  So, umm . . . don't see why I was part of that quote there, but, whatever.

Probably wishful thinking, but I'm hoping for at least 3 more female companions, signature edition character included. :)

My hopes:

Female elf
Female dwarf
Signature character (please be female!)

That would add up to a total of six female companions. Seems unlikely, but it would still be nice. In Origins we had 4 females. And so far with have 3 female companions for DA2...
