I agree 101%. The last thing I need is a Paolini-esque elven love interest with zero personality beyond being staggeringly beautiful and good at fighting. I'd rather have something less boring, like a dwarf insecure about her stoutness .

Actually, there was an elven love interest in origins, but he was male. And as I've said before, human love interests have been done to death, should we drop those as well?

The title of the thread is female elf love interest, and I was commenting on that. And humans tend to be much more varied in fantasy personality-wise, wheras elven love interests usually follow the archetype I outlined.

And the human love interest in origins weren't typical archetypes? Besides, even elven characters don't have to stick to any archetype the writers can make them whatever they want.

I'm more of a dwarf romance fan myself however I don't think its fair to pull the "Elf romances have been done to death" card, its not like to have an elf romance you have to follow a specific formula.

if i cant get a female qunari Li i want a female elf. if everyone follows gaiders view all of the li would be human that act like alistar or leliena their good but whats the diffrence between a lovey dovey human than a lovey dovey elf makes no sense.

If anyone knows where Gaider stated that, please post a link. I'd really like to see the context in which he wrote that. I have a feelin...

I support a LadyElfLoveInterest ™.

People say it's cliche, but I can't really remember much elven LIs in games. There is BG2, which had three very different elven personalities as LI (so not really cliche I think) and NWN2 had the druid lady (which I never romanced). But otherwise... enlighten me, please.

I'm a big fan of elves so I say Yay to this. I'm still bummed at being forced to play as a boring old human so I at least hope our team will be full of interesting dwarves, elves and qunari

Yeah, I'd have liked to play as an elf as well. So I really hope we do get a female elf companion and love interest.  I really hope they don't give us only human females as love interest companions again.

Help me understand this, really.

If any elven companion you have romanced thus far in all the games you have played- had been human, would that have made them *less* appealing simply because they are human? Do you look at your RL girlfriends as they sleep and sigh regretfully at night that they do not have pointy ears? I mean...I can understand in other settings why the allure of a woman who will look 19 for the next 90 years will be compelling. But in this setting?

Is it a fetish thing because of their appearance? Because I can totally understand that if it is.

Committing ritual suicide done *to death*... I smell a pun here. No, even two.

I can't believe Gaider said that. What hope would there be left for us believers if even the gods turned to heresy?

"Done to death" is no excuse for refusing female elf romance. Actually there is no excuse for refusing female elf romance. I hope developers won't pull a Maker on us and come around this time.

maybe it's a fetish but :

pointy ears are charming
delicate faces are beauty
thin and feline bodies are sexy

what else? :P

It's not a fetish, my good man, it's taste. Plain and simple.

Good thing he didn't. Here's what he actually said (thanks to dragonagecentral.com):

The love interests for elves are the same as the love interests for dwarves and humans. If you're of the belief that your elven character wouldn't romance one of the characters available to you... then that's your choice, no different than if you found the available romances unappealing for other reasons.

We have a variety of romances available (especially considering they're entirely optional) but they'recertainly not for every taste. Personally, I was simply not interest inrepeating the all-elven romances that existed in Baldur's Gate. If this makes you unhappy, then I apologize but that's simply how it is.

I agree that having all romances of the same race is boring, but what you did is replace all elf with all human. It's not an improvement, it's the same thing with a different label.

You "agree"? When did I say it was boring? I simply said I had no intention of doing it again in this particular game -- I wrote enough female elven romances to date, thank you. You may think it needs "improving", I don't. Hopefully you will find something to like amongst the romances we do have available. If not, c'est la vie.

I like female elves just fine. Do we really need to rehash the whole female elf/male mage/female warrior thing again? I see no real need to defend anything here, to be honest. These are simply the characters we chose to pursue, and no doubt someone would find fault with those choices no matter which direction we took. So be it. Nothing more I can really say about it, so I'll leave it at that.

A counter-question to be - is a romance less appealing because the girl has pointy ears?
If any human companion you have romanced had been an elf, would that made them less appealing?

The reson itself is ABSURD.
It's like saying "readheads are done to death - no more readhead romances". It's just...sensless. Arbitrary.

Besides..ELF GIRLS ROCK!

Oh c'mon, do you seriously expect BW to ever give us a stereotypical elf in the DAO universe? Thankfully, they'll never do that. Other fantasy elves are pompous, if good-willed, idiots at best and reclusive suprematist pricks at worst. I love the DAO elves because they're not carbon copies of Tolkienian elves. *
A female DAO elf LI, written by Bioware, could easily become one of my favourite characters ever. As long as it's not like Velanna (i.e. harsh, distant, prone to fits of homicidal rage). A girl resembling Leliana (i.e. sweet, good-natured and slightly unstable) would be perfect, but I'd be fine with other archetypes, such as a closer-to-earth woman who has common sense and lots of sarcasm, but can also be nice and attentive. Really, there's a million ways this could be done successfully.

FEMALE ELF ROMANCE IN DA2! You heard me Bioware! Make it happen!

* (Also, I have a thing for short girls).

I think some people (me included, I admit) still have bad flashbacks to Baldur's Gate where romance for male PCs was nothing but elves, and Neverwinter Nights didn't help much by adding three more female elves and only one female human.

In BioWare games with settings that have elves, there have been six male PC/female elf romances and only three male PC/female human romances. (The humans have the elves well outnumbered if you take into account games like KotOR and Jade Empire mind you.)

That's not to say that I never want a female elf as a love interest again, but there is a reason why some people are resistant to the idea. Honestly, I'd rather a female dwarf or quanari since we've never seen that before.
