I think some people (me included, I admit) still have bad flashbacks to Baldur's Gate where romance for male PCs was nothing but elves, and Neverwinter Nights didn't help much by adding three more female elves and only one female human.

Oh c'mon, do you seriously expect BW to ever give us a stereotypical elf in the DAO universe? Thankfully, they'll never do that. Other fantasy elves are pompous, if good-willed, idiots at best and reclusive suprematist pricks at worst. I love the DAO elves because they're not carbon copies of Tolkienian elves. *
A female DAO elf LI, written by Bioware, could easily become one of my favourite characters ever. As long as it's not like Velanna (i.e. harsh, distant, prone to fits of homicidal rage). A girl resembling Leliana (i.e. sweet, good-natured and slightly unstable) would be perfect, but I'd be fine with other archetypes, such as a closer-to-earth woman who has common sense and lots of sarcasm, but can also be nice and attentive. Really, there's a million ways this could be done successfully.
FEMALE ELF ROMANCE IN DA2! You heard me Bioware! Make it happen!
* (Also, I have a thing for short girls).
I agree. Bioware are quite capable of making elven characters that aren't stereotypes, and it'd be interesting to see what they could do with a female elf love interest character. This is exactly what I want. And I hope they deliver.

A qunari could work.

I can't believe Gaider said that. What hope would there be left for us believers if even the gods turned to heresy?
"Done to death" is no excuse for refusing female elf romance. Actually there is no excuse for refusing female elf romance. I hope developers won't pull a Maker on us and come around this time.
Good thing he didn't. Here's what he actually said (thanks to dragonagecentral.com):The love interests for elves are the same as the love interests for dwarves and humans. If you're of the belief that your elven character wouldn't romance one of the characters available to you... then that's your choice, no different than if you found the available romances unappealing for other reasons.
We have a variety of romances available (especially considering they're entirely optional) but they'recertainly not for every taste. Personally, I was simply not interest inrepeating the all-elven romances that existed in Baldur's Gate. If this makes you unhappy, then I apologize but that's simply how it is.Quote: Posted 09/06/09 13:03 (GMT) by Lotion Soronnar
I agree that having all romances of the same race is boring, but what you did is replace all elf with all human. It's not an improvement, it's the same thing with a different label.
You "agree"? When did I say it was boring? I simply said I had no intention of doing it again in this particular game -- I wrote enough female elven romances to date, thank you. You may think it needs "improving", I don't. Hopefully you will find something to like amongst the romances we do have available. If not, c'est la vie.I like female elves just fine. Do we really need to rehash the whole female elf/male mage/female warrior thing again? I see no real need to defend anything here, to be honest. These are simply the characters we chose to pursue, and no doubt someone would find fault with those choices no matter which direction we took. So be it. Nothing more I can really say about it, so I'll leave it at that.
HAHA, I WAS CERTAIN!

Well I don't know, either way there's nothing wrong with having new elf characters as love interest. I'd love to see a character something like Arwen from lord of the rings or just some sort of interesting elf character.

I'm sorry I don't need no tolkien up in my darkspawn infested world. Your arwen wouldn't survive a blight if it bit her in the azz. Now having a character who can fight with a sword and has no problem killing things and who isn't monning over how her man left her is something I could definitely see in an Elvin woman. I like strong women and in the world of DA. Strong women are probably the only kind who will really survive in it.ZaroktheImmortal wrote...

Sadly...I don't think this is going to happen. I'm not sure in what thread or how long ago it was, but Gaider once jumped into a discussion very similar to this, i.e. Why didn't we have an Elven LI, aside from Zevran who almost didn't count as an Elf, and his explanation, basically, came down to, "The reason there were no Elven LIs is because Elven LIs are cliche and boring. They've been done to death in Fantasy." It was an argument that was a "wee" bit hollow considering you can find plenty of Fantasy novels and even games were the Hero has romanced women of all types.
Isn't the hero saving the world from a dark horde also been done to death though? Or dwarves living under ground? Of elves living in the forest? Or... well you get the idea.
I LOVED Dragon Age but it didn't exactly break the Western fantasy mold.
And, yes, I too support a female love interest just make her bi for my Lady Hawke!

If we got a Female Elf Romance, what kinda gal would ya'all wanna see from her? (No, i'm not talking about her assets! I mean personality, behavior, interests, & perhaps what class & Specialization(s)!)
There's so many possibilities. What I'm hoping for is a unique and interesting character. Not sure on an exact personality or class. But I'd want some character who's capable of taking care of themselves, so no damsels in distress. Though I think most of the companions are quite capable, the wouldn't be much of a companion otherwise. But I'd like a sort of strong personality I think. But not overbearing.

Agreed, she was a rather good character. I'd be happy with a companion and love interest that was like her.

You can play as an elf in DAO and rise to a position of power though....
Within the Grey Wardens, yes. But outside of the Grey Wardens no. Elven characters couldn't become Queen for instance. Also you still don't have any female elf love interests, which was my point.

You can become Bann of the Alienage if you so wish - the power of political representation. You become the Hero of Fereldan. You become the Warden Commander. As you say, however, there are no Elven love interests. There is an Elven shag at the beginning of the human origin, but nothing more. I agree that it would be nice to have an Elven LI.
Bann of the Alienage is hardly a position of any real power. You're pretty much only in charge of the area where the elves are restricted to. You'll never reach the sort of positions of power that a human could. The Hero of Fereldan is more of just a title for your accomplishments, and still not a position of power. And the Warden Commander, again it's only any real power within the Grey Wardens.
And yes, I am hoping for an Elven Love interest. A female elven love interest was missing from the first game, and seeing as how we can only play as human I hope all the more that we get a female elven love interest companion.

I don't think I'd miss an Elf romance in DA2 as much, since we are always going to be Hawke. Still I think it could be interesting given most Elves (especially Dalish Elves) are brought up to hate/fear humans.
I don't understand why Dave thinks it would be boring. DA Elves don't necessarily break the fantasy mold but there are enough unique qualities to them that I don't think it would be cliche. Also given that he would be the one writing it, he could make it not boring!

Again, he didn't say that, he was misquoted. Read my post on the previous page. And keep in mind that the quotes date from over a year ago and are concerning DAO, not DA2.
