Canon =/= default. They actually DO mean two entirely separate things.

Yeah, it seems correct to assume advertised!Hawke is a Mage. Seems mostly ground in Bood Magic, with some aspects of Arcane Warrior. Probably only to the point where he can wear armor and use swords.

Well, he's definately a mage, because he does magic in the trailer. The question is whether he's only a mage, or, if not, what kind of mage/warrior hybrid he is.

That's still not canon, that's a default. You are conflating the two terms.

The difference is this: default only fills in gaps, canon disregards whether something's already there or not.

Example: Default is saying Alistair is ruling alone as King of Ferelden if you didn't transfer a save file into Awakening. Canon is saying Alistair is ruling alone as King of Ferelden even if you did.

Default Hawke is a blood mage, people. He fights that qunari and uses his wound to summon a demon. Also, he wears the default mage clothes from the demo. And wields a staff.

Nursery school.

All three are canon and not at the same time. Think of it like Parallel Universes where Hawke does Option A. Hawke does Option B in another reality. Same thing applies to classes. >_

People will say there is no canon but it is not hard to see in any trailers and even the demo that male (blood)mage is the featured character of Bioware.

And arcane warrior can't be canon because there is no arcance warrior subclass in DA2.

Mage is the canon class, asofar as there is one. Which there isn't, really.

They made his iconic armor, put it on all the trailers and promos.



Then when the time came to decide who got to wear it, they gave it to Mage Hawke.

Well also carver starts out on the rival side to Hawke, and you get him if you are a mage. So this is probably more interesting for some than darling Bethany.
