Do you people really think Hawke's class will matter in DA 3? Or that after DA 2, it will ever be referenced?

Hint: The default DA:O playthrough for DA II has the OGB and Alistar and Anora on the throne, but the Warden's class and gender aren't even mentioned.

They are only default playthroughs though. I always thought save imports are supposed to 'enrich' the new story and not ridicule it. So making anything canon that has been a player choice before is a bad move imo. Which probably wouldn't keep Bioware doing it nevertheless. The Order dictates ...

In the trailers Hawke is a Mage, but that doesn't really make it canon or important in any kind of way... as far as we know.

Though the need for an apostate and the Chantry/Templars being pivitol to the story could indicate that a Hawke family Mage is very important. Remains to be seen if the player's character being a Mage is important or not.

I noticed in the codex about carver it said "he grew up around alot of magic" or something like that, and I was playing a rouge. Then you have the family "staff" extra which mentions Hawkes family has always had an affinity with magic. Putting all that together I think, no matter what class, Hawke will gain some kind of special "magic"

It depends on why we have a default name. Is it because Hawke is the new Shepard who we will be playing in multiple DA games? Or is it because they want to be able to reference the champion by name when the subject comes up in future stories?

While I will be more sure of my opinion after playing the game all the way through to see how it plays out, I believe Hawke's class WILL matter in DA3 because I think we will be playing the same character.

Of course, this isn't what you meant... obviously you're talking about whether or not it matters to the story. Which it doesn't. So my reply was kinda pointless, I suppose. But I can't be assed into deleting it now that I've typed all of this out. So this is the point where I add one more sentence on to give the post a little more meat and make it look just a little more important.

And now we're done here.

On the front of the box, it looks like it's a sword he is holding, but from the trailer it's actually a Staff.  Like others have said it looks Arcane Warrior-ish.  Also his armor that he is the Mage version of the Champion of Kirkwall Armor.

I think the Default would be a Mage Hawke.  The story does seem a bit more tailored to a Mage Hawke than a Warrior or Rogue one.

Hawk was a mage his specializations are blood magic and arcane warrior. Mages can do close combat too now in da2 ,morrigan use her staff for close combat in a trailer, hawk is magic fits the story seeing as the hawks have been said to be cursed with magic also hawk is related to human mage warden proving further that magic runs in the family.

If you read the codex's the staff in the trailer is the staff of Parthalan once owned by a mage of the same name who if i recall was advisor to one of the ancient kings of Ferelden and is some distant relation of Hawke's as the staff is implied to be a family heirloom it also says that Hawke was trained by his father Malcom who sometime prior to meeting Leandra plied his trade as a Mercenary and as such was very skilled in many forms of martial combat as well as being a talented mage, using his skills to teach both his sons.

Based on DAO's skillsets Hawke would be an ArcaneWarrior even though DA2 doesnt allow the mage to wield a sword it doesnt really matter as the mages staffs are used in a manner simmilar to quarterstaff's when not used to cast magic. In the case of the trailer's staff with one end having a blade i can be used as a spear.

DA:O's most powerful build is an Arcane Warrior. Similarly, DAII's most powerful build is a Warrior. Those are MY canon, which make them automatically YOUR canon as well.

"Canon" as we would normally think of it exists, but it's fluid depending upon your save import. For the purposes of DA3, I imagine that the "default canon" would feature a mage Hawke. But actions speak louder than class. I would think there'd be some mention of Hawke's class in DA3 at some point, something along the lines of the human mage warden being mentioned in DA2.

Mage is not canon! There is no canon! The choices you make and the class you choose is your own canon, just like Mass Effect. Example: my canon is that Hawke is a warrior and sided with the mages. Just face it.

I can't say whether Hawke has a canon class, but I believe there may be some strong necromancy being used in this thread.

Actually I'd like to see biowares full canon. I'm currently following all the novels and comics and OMG so awesome.
Unfortunately, some would read BWs canon and think somehow it's wrong and has impacted their own story choices negatively......
