Some quotes I think are interesting from Mike Laidlaw's interview:
Isabela is hilarious; she tells a lot of dirty jokes. She’ll probably stand out.
...
For this one what we’ve tried to do is give him the sense that your
companions actually have their own space, their own role, their own kind
of agendas in the city of Kirkwall. There are moments when you come
into the bar and you’ll find one companion chatting with another. You
start talking to them, and then they’re talking about something the two
of them have done. Then they’re like, “Oh hey Hawke, how are you doing,”
and one of them gets up and leaves and you continue on. It creates this
dynamic between the companions that says these are people. They have
friendships within their own group. They’ve gotten to know people
through you. As the game progresses, as that decade plays out, they
start to have their own rivalries and things like, “I did that favor for
you like you asked” kind of stuff. And you’re like, “Wow, this is
neat.” These feel like much more realized people simply because they
have their own place and goals within the city. I love the dirty jokes part! I like my pirates raunchy.

I'm curious what Aveline will be like when Isabela starts with those--I could see her being unamused, but I think it would be awesome if regardless of whatever her orientation may be, she's fun enough to just joke right back with Isabela. Even better if she starts out being wary but over time develops a good friendship with Izzy, although if they're both bi it might be interesting if they have differing ideas about what is in good taste and what isn't.
And either way, I think Varric and Isabela--with their wit--will be very fun to have in the same party, quite possibly with Fenris (as DG has indicated that he's got a pretty dry sense of humor.) Ugh, I've got to stop thinking along these lines; I'm going to end up right back at my signature banner. *shakes her head ruefully*
But it's nice that regardless of whom we place in our parties, it sounds like everyone will interact with everyone and they'll have lives that don't revolve around whatever the PC is doing. You see more sides to someone when they talk to others and not just you. I think the multifaceted nature of the characters and interactions will make the romances in general more fulfilling.
I'm very much looking forward to my LadyHawke/Isabela playthrough. She just seems like so much
fun! I can't think of a F/F LI who was that much fun in the past. Silk Fox was great, but I think Isabela's humor, boldness, and charm (and piracy) will make her romance unique. And "Kitten" is an adorable nickname... heh, it's funny applied to a burly male Hawke, but I think it will be more fitting for my red-haired gal.

I loved the white hair. It gave her a
very distinct look, the darker hair makes her look a bit....
meh.
Fenris also has white hair, but due to the lyrium veins
there's a story reason tied to it, so I guess they were trying to think of a reason for her hair to be white and then decided they were better off just making her dark-haired. I liked the white hair too, but I think the black hair makes more sense for Cassandra. It also makes her look more intimidating somehow.

An out-of-party/npc f/f option would be really interesting.
I certainly hope for this--maybe even several, or at least one uniquely f/f and m/m option. I understand that they can't do strictly f/f or m/m full romance options, just because the content wouldn't be seen by as many people as they want, but they could potentially do it for a minor LI, and given how many fics were written about Bann Teagan, minor LIs can still be much-beloved. But even if they didn't want to go that route, they could still make multiple bi options, which would hopefully present a good range of choice.
Really, once you're on your second, third, fourth, etc. replay, those extra options can feel all the more fulfilling. It helps to see your latest PC a different way when they are falling in love with someone new rather than retracing the same old paths of conversation to get to the good stuff.

God I have got to start watching Xena again.
Me too; it's been too damned long. The show was always fun, and Hudson Leick was
so badass. The dynamic between her and Xena was intense, too.
