bioware's prejudice against certain sexual orientations is unforgiveable and a clear reason why they should be kneecapped to serve as an example.

There might be, as far as we know.

There has only been confirmed that there are these five romanceables, but there should be more npc's outside the party to play with, a type like Isabella version Origins might be found among them.

OH GOOD SUGGESTION, EVERYONE WHO HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE GAME SHOULD JUST GET OVER IT.
Yeah, bascially. Constructive critisism and nerd raging are two very different things. The game is done. So now you can either stomp around and troll each and every romance thread like some giant man child or you can deal with it and enjoy the game when it comes out.

I already posted this in the Merrill thread, but here, have a Lady!Hawke and a Merrill.

So, which one will you all go for first?
Isabela
And why?
She's a pirate.
This. This on toast.

I was originally thinking this would be so simple--that my red-haired, brown eyed archer rogue (gonna base her off of Lynsey Bartilson a little bit, with a somewhat tougher look) would be with Isabela. But now that Merrill's in, I'm not 100% sure. It's so hard to resist the lure of the badass piratess wench, but if I liked Merrill's personality enough...
Eee, I will actually have a CHOICE this time! My Juhani gal, my Jade Empire main PC, and Ryla Shepard each only had a single option. The fact that my archer will have the opportunity to take her pick based on which suits her better... it really entices me to make those kinds of in-between characters, you know? The meaty sort that you really have to think about what they're going to want. I'm looking forward to my DA2 playthroughs almost too much, now... it makes me worry that my hype level is getting too high. But I still think it's going to be pretty awesome.

Anders was also straight in
Awakenings unless you wanna make the cop out arguement of "he was in
the closet" even though thedas is accepting of homosexuality and so is
the chantry so he had no reason to hide it.
Just because I know this will come up again even if you've accepted things as they are by now:
Anders flirts with Oghren, who mocks him in suggestive ways. He sounds dirty when he talks to Nathaniel about being naked. Would you have preferred that he grabbed your male Warden and gave him a full-on kiss, would that be what you need to believe that a character is bi, (or perhaps that Bioware wouldn't think it's a good idea to have him do so?) or can you accept that maybe in a small month's window of time other things were just more important than Anders proclaiming loudly until everyone hears him, "I do NOT like only women, BUT ALSO MEN!!!"
Nathaniel: "You don't always wear robes, do you?"
Anders: "Not when I'm naked, I don't."
Listen to the tone of voice in which he says that. And when Oghren teases him about wearing a skirt (a sign that his gaydar is going off, or possibly even that he's attracted to Anders and doesn't know how to deal with it) Anders responds:
Anders: "You know how strict things are in the Circle, right? Of course you do, well--robes make quick trysts in the corner easy.... no laces or buttons, you just... well, you're done before the templars catch on."
And then there's Oghren's making fun of Anders. I don't recall him ever making fun of a male Warden mage, but when it comes to Anders:
Oghren: "Ohh, no, don't take me back to the tower! I'm far, far too delicate! Ohh nooo, big templar man? What are you going to do with that sword? *raunchy laugh*"
Anders' "ew" can be explained thusly: It was a templar and a sword he was talking about, not a mage's harmlessly blunt staff. I don't think I need to spell that one out further.
And "Anders" in Dutch and German means "different." Just because the fact that he's different than what you thought was subtle enough that you didn't notice it--possibly because they wanted to keep Awakening fairly asexual in tone--doesn't mean it wasn't there under your nose all along.
Neither Anders nor Sigrun nor Nathaniel nor Velanna talks about former lovers--does that make them all virgins? No? Well, then it doesn't make them all straight either. And if you're going to say that flirting with each other makes them one sexuality, then I'm going to have to call EVERY MALE IN AWAKENING IS ATTRACTED TO MEN.
Oghren: The whole quiet and stoic thing must get you a lot of action, huh?
Nathaniel: I take it you're an admirer, Oghren?
Oghren: "What? NO! No, well... not unless... no!"
Apparently, they were all bi in Awakening as well.
If not, then maybe, just maybe, it was just left ambiguous, since Awakening is such a small sliver of time and I doubt Bioware likes beating the player over the head with a character's personal traits. One trick of the writing trade; "show, don't tell." Bludgeoning the player with a fact, like stating outright that Wade and Herren were a couple, would have been lame.
That kind of Captain Obvious, Have I Mentioned I Am Homosexual/Heterosexual/Bisexual Today BS is so unnecessary. I for one am glad they didn't do it that way.
I don't think that Nathaniel or Oghren are necessarily bi, but sexuality is still not a simple matter. That Anders is bi is no stretch to me--of course, I had the feeling he was from the moment I first met him in game. Make of that what you will.

I really want to go for Isabella first time around, but . . . IF Merril is romancable. . . I just have to see how my Hawke turns out. Certain. . . spoilers (blast my lack of self-control!), have made me much more interested in a romance with her. . . .

Me, I'll go for Isabela. She has this element of adventure to her that I like, like she's seen a lot of things, been many places, and had a lot of camaraderie with those she sailed with. Plus, she seems very comfortable with her sexuality (not referring to orientation), which is a trait I personally find very attractive in women.

I agree with this.
And your others, too.
But this deserved to be reposted. No need to advertise sexuality to someone you're not going to have sex with: Anders need not inform the Warden he is bi. His remarks about women are most likely an amusement.
Also, I'm not sure who I like more. It's such a hard decision... they are both so lovely <3

I am going for Isabela myself, ever since Origins I had wished she was a party member and now she really is!
But that thing in the selected guide pages, makes me more interested in Merrill than I was at first. Also, I wonder how her and Fenris being in the party at the same time will be handled.

Straight people constantly advertize their sexuality. Gay people often advertize their sexuality because they're an invisable minority. Why wouldn't bisexual people do the same?
We were talking about sexuality advertisement in general, not just bisexuals.

Okay. I think it's healthy for people to advertize their sexuality. Simply that when gay and bisexual people do it, they're too harshly judged.IndelibleJester wrote...

That's a personal preference, definitely. I don't particularly enjoy it when others advertise their sexuality. I don't particularly do it myself, either.

No one of any orientation should be required to advertise their sexuality, and many people do not.

Not used to this feeling...
Anyway, as mentioned, my canon Hawke will be all over Isabela, but I will give the Merrill romance a shot after that, unless I find her character horrible for some reason.

Unless you get split after playing the game for the first time. It happens. Sometimes, after spending hours with both characters, you don't know what to do, unless you follow a plan.
