Yes, and you're expected to have a slight mustache and excel at tennis (or some sort of sport).
I favor the storyline above all else, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with appreciating beauty, or wanting to do things *ahem* in appreciation of that beauty. Its healthy, and to be told that you have to like "a certain look" to be considered a thinking individual with depth and character is pure bull.
Short version: I like the hotness, deal with it.![]()

I have never said that it is cheap. I have only stated that if romance would only revolve around the fact that the LI is beautiful, has huge boobs, great bum, has a "great personality", then it isn't very realistic.
It's a Mary Sue situation.
Everyone is after aesthetics, but it shouldn't be the crux.
When you used the phrase 'cheap hotness' I believed this is what you were saying. But I agree with you that it should not be the crux.
What I believe it is, is a convenient shorthand for game makers. It's unsurprising that we are attracted to attractive people and using that as a way of bypassing real life 'getting to know you' awkwardness just allows them to accelerate the LI to fit a romance storyline into the frame of the game's run time.

The dwarves are no longer the point in this, but by including dwarves as a romance option, they would send a clear message that their romances aren't only about eye-candy or fulfilling someone's fantasies. It would be a tale about love in another world, where people do feel no particular social stigma to feel attracted to dwarves, for example. The cheap hotness wouldn't be the center of it.
A good romance has a good storyline, doesn't center on the fact that the LI is hot and bothered, has a dramatic build up. The F/F romance is especially vulnerable to becoming typical, as since the majority of the playerbase is male, it could end up to be mainly catered to the male players who find it attractive in general.
Neither Jack nor Garrus or Thaine (?) were exactly superhawt eyecandy. This place was reserved for Miranda, and we all know how much she talked about it being part of her genetic trailoring. So i think Bioware earns some credit.
Even Leliana in her default appereance wasnt described as hot. Morrigan yes, but not Leliana.
So i dont think it is all about the eyecandy, but honestly more about characters.
And i rly cant see the problem with a social stigma. If u played a dwarf in DA:O u could romance everyone exactly like everyone else. IIRC it was even the only origin were u could father a child.
Well, i agree with you that good romance is partly defined through the storyline. But where exactly is it a bad thing that Bioware makes the LI fairly good looking? Everyone knows that looks ARE important after all. Not the most important thing for sure, but they are important! The majority of the playerbase is male, thats true. But most of em play a male hawk to begin with.
What do you mean with typical? Two "hawt girls" that get it going like cheap pornstars?
Bioware has never done such a thing. If one of the NPCs was displayed as hot and sexy, than it always had a reason and was not for the sake of hawtness iteself. (morrigan, mirranda etc.)
Could u explain a bit more in depth what bothers u with a good looking f/f LI? I really dont get it. ^^

I would honestly prefer an attractive LI to romance, I have nothing against it at all. But an epic storyline will win me over with much greater success.

Then congratulations, you got a discussion started.
But as this is a thread that asks 'What type of girl do you want to see for FemHawke?' you really shouldn't be so surprised when some of us want to use visual depictions to give an opinion.
There is six months to go until the game is released. That gives us plenty of time to cover all the bases including storyline ramifications.
In the meantime some of us just like to be a little bit silly and giggly as well.

Ye, we can talk about Storylines all you want. ^^
But its a lot harder to come up with interesting Storylines than to discuss or link half-naked woman.
I for one would love an elfen LI that grew up with the dwarfs in the deeproads. She obviously always was differnt among all the dwarfs and thus learend not to judge a person on obvious things like height or gender since she had her very own share of hate in her youth. On the other hand she never was opposed by humans as her brethren on the surface, or so violently independent and harsh to ousiders like a dalish.
And being one of the few Beings in the Deeproads which is able to dream she got a special relationship towards lyrium. (what makes her than discover some ancient dwarfen thingy, or she finds things out none dwarf ever thought about. Or maybe she just got some special kind of "vision" ability from the lyrium exposure. w/e i just made that suff up in 5 seconds)
Tis better topic to dicuss for you?

I think I gave my reasons in an earlier post. I can't take them seriously. They look like round versions of leprechauns. They make me giggle. I would take a female who looks like Justice on a bad day, over a dwarf. I apologize for this shortcoming. Perhaps the new design for dwarves in DA2 will change my mind.

I got worked up because of a reply. It was irrelevant. Took it out of context MYSELF this time.
Nevermind.
I don't know, attraction-wise I never translate people in games into real-life equivalents, not directly at least.
So dwarves wouldn't be a problem for me, even though... Oh well, nevermind the real life equivalent as well.
But a dwarf romance would be new both storyline and concept wise.

Really? What makes u think it would be new storywise?
I mean, why does it have to be a dwarf to be new, storywise? I think there are plenty of opportunitys for a LI to be new storywise. Hey, we never had a human commoner! Or an Orleasian elf. Or someone who follows the Qun. Nothing wrong with a dwarfen thingy though too!
But can u like... give an example of what u would like? Story and concept wise.
And as for concept... well, its a romance, isnt it? Its always about two people to fall in love with each other?
