Another depressing thought:
Our true love is forced to die.
Hmm. With the ten year span you could potentially do something interesting with this. What if you had an LI in the early part of the game and they died... would you pine for them or move on? How would that affect your relationship with a second LI? What if that person were someone you initially spurned in favour of the woman who died? Would you be torn between this second person and seeking some kind of revenge?
What if the 2nd LI was the
reason the 1st died?!? (Not "fault", but maybe our heartthrob perished in a rescue attempt or something...?) How do you get past your hurt/stop blaming them? What if
you don't blame them, but them blame themselves? What if you, or they, or
neither of you know that's why/how it happened until you're already "too far gone"?
You're right, Uncanny, ten years is a nice, loooooong time!
PC:
Wait! YOU are the Princess of
Al-Berra? Impossible! She died years ago, killed during an escape attempt.
LI2: I had to hide. Too many were slain trying to protect me, or trying to free me. Even before my prison became a real one, I hated that life. I was thankful to leave it behind.
PC: But... But... [LI1] was lost at
G'Alny! She... She.. [chokes up] [walks away]
LI2: [follows] [reaches out hand] What's wrong?! What's happened?
PC: [shakes head] [ throws off hand] I can't... You don't... Just leave me. Now!
