I so totally want to see him. He needs to be miserable. In turn, this will make me miserable. But, like, fun, you know.
It would be amusing if my actions resulted in me getting special recruitable ally... Alistar... but drunken... and we catch up to him to catch him drinking Oghren under the table and then lumbers over to us holding Oghren's Darkspawn Ravager saying, "So you up for a drinking challenge?"
Our constitution will determine if we can beat him in a drinking contest, and you must win to recruit him.

Well in that case, my rogue is completely screwed.

Yes, but just as Hawke cannot be Morrigan's son, Drunk Alistair cannot be an integral part to the plot.
Hawke isn't Morrigan's child due to the timeframe in which DA:2 occurs and because Hawke's story isn't about being Morrigan's child.
If Bioware actually wanted that storyline to continue through a PC's background, while still supporting previous choices, they could just do it with three iterations of the same background (Warden/Morrigan's Child, Dark Ritual Child, Morrigan/Nameless Sperm Donor's Child).

I'm actually on the fence about this. BioWare's been talking about how they want you to shape the world.
I think a few cameos and off-hand comments about what is happening in Ferelden would be acceptable for most choices. If previous areas are revisted, then I'd expect a lot more effects of what happened in Origins to be felt in-game.
For some of the bigger choices though, I think they might spread the effects out a bit. I mean if you spared the Architect, Hawke could find out what he is up to in DA:2, but that character and his intelligent Darkspawn might be better used in a DA title in which the Darkspawn are a major element.

And he likes dudes.
He does if you install certain mods.
I'm not against a drunken Alistair cameo, I just wouldn't see it in my game. At best I would end up watching it on youtube or something.

I'm having a vision
Alistair is briefly on screen complaining loudly about betrayal. He gets eated by Harvetser.

I was thinking about it. Drunk Alistair as a replacement companion. Say you DON'T do Drunk Alistair... so you get a new character. But if you DO do Drunk Ally, he replaces the newbie. It's probably not going to work like this, though. Especially with the length being cut.
Wait, cut length? You mean the 20-30 hour thing, or are they cutting that?

I rather liked that Alistair would abandon you if you chose to spare Loghain. It demonstrated the boy was indeed willing to do something solely for himself and that there was a line in the sand he wouldn't cross even for the Wardens. I just wish he hadn't turned into a wondering drunk.
Harden him, place him on the throne and spare Loghain. He'll leave your company but he'll remain king. Loghain becomes a hero, Alistair is still a badass (and good) king and Ferelden benefits from it overall.

Now I'm wondering if I ever hardened him at all ever. I thought I was. Maybe I wasn't.
Did you set him up with Anora?
Edit: If you want to add insult to injury, make Alistair a drunkard while becoming king yourself.

No. What speech option was it supposed to be, the Hardening one.
"Everybody is looking out for themselves. You should learn that."
When he says he learned that from you in the next conversation, say something like it's about time or finally instead of saying "I didn't mean that."

Oh come on, if Alistair were playing Dragon Age he'd wanna see it too.
