I did that once, but I felt really bad about it 
But not as bad as the US ending where I romanced him and left him at the gate  It made me tear up

I would have to play a new origins game, but if DA2 turns out to be really good and they put that much effort into your save file, I would play another character to turn Alister into a drunk.

Allistar is no king, It is heavily implied without Anora he will not be up to the task.

Would you rather see him as blissful drunk or the once hero turned King who lead ferelden to a age darker than that of the blight!

Allistar is the tragic clown of dragon age, It's impossible for things to go completley right for him. Best chance of seeing him happy is if you let him stay a warden or 2nd best option would be make him marry anora so he can spend his time talking to village folk and such rather than spending time in court

I'm pretty sure I just saw a confirmation. It was done!

To quote David Gaider, he said something along the lines of

Will we see Alistair?

"Alistair could be in a bunch of different places. He could be drunk. In the Free Marches. He could be king. He could be a Grey Warden. He could be dead."

Now, that "drunk/Free Marches" thing could be taken as two different scenarios, but I'm pretty sure that it was said in a "drunk--in the Free Marches!" sort of way.
