First game? Very first? I think Pong on the Atari. I remember some text computer game, but pong was pretty mind blowing.
Fast forward a few years, I kicked butt at centepede, but I was so glad when games at home got good enough I no longer had to pay a quarter per game. That got really expensive.

It may have been Zelda, but I lost interest in those kind of game when I got my first computer and Eye Of the Beholder is the one I remember.

the mario that lets you pick between mario, peach, luigi and toad? for regular Nintendo i played it at the babrer shop when i was like 4 or 5 while they cut my hair

Blackjack/Golf/Racer on the Odyssey (the poor man's Atari).
But I first considered myself a gamer with the first Zelda game. I can still probably pick up a controller and be able to get the Master Sword before getting past the third dungeon, or get the Blue Ring before getting the Magic Whistle. Not to mention the "Zelda" name cheat...
