I thought it was easy at first, but after a first try, it didn't work, even though I was pretty sure of my shot.
What I did:
Copied the file CLA_base.xls, opened it  and changed the number of skills and talents per level. I've put the original file safely in another folder and left the new one where the older one was.
I entered the game and gained a level, but nothing was changed.
Can someone point me out what I did not understand on how to modify those rules?
Could it be because I used OpenOffice instead of Excel and saved the document in the wrong version? But then, it would have simply make the game crash, right?
Now I bet that document has no link with the real content used in the game. Then, how to do it?
And would you place the original files back to their place?

Maybe a stupid question; but you did name the modded file CLA_base.xls right?

I do not see how using OpenOffice would be a problem, as all you have done is edit a int value. It might be a problem if you made a totally new xls, but I dont see why it would? (then again microsoft are s***h****).

You need to export the xls file to an mda file. Use the ExcelProcessor.exe file in (DA install dir)/tools/ResourceBuild/Processors/. Check here towards the bottom of the page to get an example of how to do so.

Where is supposed to be my 2daExporter.xls?

Or how do you convert .xls file to .gda ones? (I believe you can do that with the 2daexporter.xls)

I thought this data would go into an override folder of some kind.

Indeed, but that's only after conversion.

Can someone please break down this process for me? I read the wiki page but I still dont get it.

What I think I understand:

1) Copy the 2da file to a seperate folder c:\\2da

2) edit the 2da file

3) run the batch processor on it to output to c:\\2da\\override

4) copy the new c:\\2da\\override 2da file into my c:\\da\\modules\\single player\\override

Please let me know what I'm missing

Don't know.  Maybe if "single player\\override" isn't working for you, go global! :P  Try putting the .gda file in .\\packages\\core\\override instead.
