Well I'm hoping the original idea for which Muffinking (leader of Muffinmen, peace be upon him) was used as an example is how it's going to play out in practice.

Is this a confirmation that devs encourage off-topic posts and trolling?

No it's a confirmaton that devs are people too. People like to chat.

Anyway no I'm not worried. I mean you don't really have to tell a story in chronological order. It will probably be no more or less linear than Origins. I mean let's say you're telling the story of how the Warden defeated the Blight.

"Well, Junior, what should I tell you about first?"
"Tell me how the Warden saved the Arl of Redcliffe!"
"Tell me how the Warden destroyed the Anvil of the Void!"
"Tell me how the Warden saved the Circle!"

You can skip around in a story during the parts that don't need to be in order just as easily as you could in the first game, where only some of the major quests had to be done chronologically.

Really I think people are jumping to conclusions regarding how constricting this approach to storytelling has to be. Have you guys never read books? I for one am more excited about the framed narrative than almost any other change I've heard about.

And, even if it does turn out to be completely chronological, would that be such a terrible sacrifice if you gain a stronger, more compelling story? I'd be ok with this myself if the payoff was worthwhile.

Indeed. That was quite surprising in fact.

I'm not sold on the idea of having the whole game being told back by a third party to someone else. I'll reserve judgement til I see if for my self though. I'll no doubt love the game anyway.

I'm not seeing the point of the fear here. For me DA:O had pretty much a linear storyline, DA2 having a linear storyline wouldn't make much of a difference to me.

You guys need to go rewatch the Princess Bride or something. There's so much potential for awesome in a style like that.

I was thinking this aswell. I'm not sure how side-quests will work out either if we are suppose to be in this type of sysyem, but I doubt BioWare will force you into a trend. That would be terrible for replayability.

Need it to turn into Oblivion.
Only then I can be satisfied with the freedom.

The Muffinking Reside over Loft, while his title make him out to be a child, he is a powerful leader.

Well, it's just the replayability in the game itself would suffer if I require to do the same thing in the same order at every time. Especially more so if there's something similar to the Deep Roads in Origins early on, making it even more discouraging. I've replayed Mass Effect 1 19+ times and Mass Effect 2 4-5+ times, there's no direct way I do things because I do what I feel like doing at the time (same thing with Origins to a lesser extent) making more playthroughs less dull and such. While I do understand how a linear plot would make an amazing first playthrough (because all decisions can impact the world directly) it would probably hurt replayability in it's linearity.

Just about every RPG is linear; some just do a better job covering up the linearity than others. Dragon Age? You become a Warden, do X Y and Z tasks, and defeat the Blight. Baldur's Gate? You defeat your psycho bro, your psycho stalker, and the psycho lady who was high priestess for your psycho dad. BioWare's pretty good about covering up the linearity; Square-Enix, not so much.

Okay but compare the main storyline of Oblivion to DAO. Incredibly weak and boring in comparison despite sharing many similarities. That's what you lose when you devote way more resources to an open world format. Not that open world games are bad, and if the DA team had extra manpower and money to throw at it they might turn out the greatest game ever (open world game that's as compelling as a Bioware game? Yes please.), however let's be real here, they don't have extra unused resources and the other elements would suffer.

But Origins was linear at the beginning and end, it was just the middle that gave you wiggle room. What I'm saying is that 2 will probably give you the same amount of freedom and that the mere fact of the frame narrative does not lock the writers into strict chronological linearity.

It is marvelous how both developer and moderators posted here and question wasn't answered, and there are no hints concerning the question.

Hah. So you want the writing team to quit the gaming industry in favor of higher paying fields and the next game to be amateur hour? Interesting approach.

Nay, it is I, the omniscient Narrator! Besides it's comfy in here and you have cable.
