I'm playing a warrior. My companions are Wynne, Alistair and Orgrehn. I'm having big issues for the final boss. I get him down to 50% health and when the darkspawn start coming Wynne always ends up dying. I use the balistas but they always jam and I do not have a rogue to fix them. Therefore I end up having no range attacks. The dalish elves dont help either because they do barely any damage and the Shrieks always kill them. I always end up unnable to hurt the Archdemon since by that point I have no range attacks. Please help!!
I'm playing on Xbox.

I have a save just before the fight. Is it possible to backtrack back to the gates and put Leliana in my squad to repair the balistas? Please help.

There are a few ballista located around at that point. If you do not have a Rogue, perhaps using Haste to speed up your next location would be of help.

To aid her survival, set Wynne to ranged tactics, and she might avoid melee a tad more often. Some of her spells may also be helpful during ballista time (ie; Blizzard, Tempest, etc).

Dwarves and Knights works pretty well against the archdemon but not elves and mages. Wynne can use Cleansing Aura to auto aoe heal the NPC and Vessel of Spirit to replenish her mana (even better if you did her personal quest) / mana potions, just control her and run circles - archie dies automatically.

Of course... the easiest is to have a rogue and blast it to hell with a Ballista :P

I have only used Elven archers in the final, and they have been effective on every occasion.

I have tried all allies (except those freak mages) and they were all successful; actually it does not make much difference but personally do not prefer archers - they are the squishiest *As Shale would put it" :P

The mages actually really help in this fight.

There should be enough ballistas around to nuke it down without repairing. If not, you can use any AoE abilities Wynne might have to nuke it also. Tempest, Blizzard, Death Cloud, Inferno, Storm of the Century, Fireball, they all work.

I'm sure Wynne is also able to hit the demon with her staff.

Turning down the difficulty also helps, the ballistae won't jam on casual.

On Xbox how do you reach the tactics page?

If Wynne is healing when the adds show up then you have to send a warrior to get the threat from them or (maybe) stun them... without knowing what spells she has it is kind'of hard to help you more sorry.

p.s.

The elves rule this fight because they fight at range and don't kill you with friendly fire.

Save the ballistas for when the ArchDemon goes over: by the time that happens, it should return to the field by the time your last one breaks.

You can, of course, also equip party members with bows just for that section, to bring down the ArchDemon's health while you run around.

Is it possible to command the armies to do certain things. Like concentrate fire on the archdemon?

It has been said that they don't jam on casual. They certainly do from normal and up. If not, you haven't used them very much.

They'll jam on casual. The chance for it is just a lot less. I've had fights where it never jammed, and others where it jammed after one shot.

Right sounds reasonable. I also had one fight on normal where I took the Archdemon from phase 2 to 3 using only Storm of the Century. Very amusing.

Can imagine most people won't even notice if ballistas jam or not on casual.

If you happen to have a save before the auto save on the rooftop it might be a good idea to load one of those and visit Sandal on the second floor to see if you can buy a few cross bows off him or even just regular bows, though seeing as you have three warriors and a mage you probably won't have high enough dex for the top end bows.

Another idea is to take over playing as Wynne, and make sure you have enough health poultices to stay alive. Warriors and rogues are pretty much just cannon fodder for high dragons anyways, even if you only got like one or two damaging spells with Wynne your still better off with her fighting since she won't be constantly knocked down (well not as much anyways) trying to damage the arch demon. You'll probably need a good supply of lyrium potions for that too though, if you don't have that hope the bows and cross bows work I guess.Hope it helps.

I just did my first time ending.

Not much to say, because it was very easy. I had me as mage (damage), Wynne (healer), Allistair (tank) and Leliana (archer). So, me, Wynne and Leliana did range attacks and Allistair runned in close combat. Later also Irvin and Arl Eamon showed up. I did not call any help as it was not needed. Just keep weaker range attacker far enough and that's it. The Dragon did not even do much damage or I did not notice.

I have all companions autoheal with potions. So, they drinked when they needed. I use tactical setting under 75% drink lesser heal potion. Under 50% drink bigger one. Two lines and rest was just attacks, except me and Wynne also had healing spells too.

Dragon seemt to attack alot of me with this blue/purple stuff, what did something?

When there was these other little ones in roof, I just clean them off with Storm of the Century

Storm of the Century does trivialize this fight. Most fights in fact.

Anyway the Archdemon doesn't do that much damage indeed. Not nearly as dangerous as Flemeth or the High Dragon I'd say. The purple stuff is just area effect damage, easy to avoid.

Corruption on your tank (75% spirit resist) and spirit resist pots for the rest of your party and it's a cakewalk.
