All my elves look like utter crap, but I hate being a noble in the beginning. I like the city elf story, but I loathe their looks. Is it possible to make a more human like elf?

Its very, very difficult with the default character creator (but not impossible!). Since you're on the PC, though, I might suggest some mods and/or the toolset. Either way, check out the Character Creator Section of the Forum; there are some amazing designs all round in there.

bearable's been about the best i can do on ps3 regardless of race or origin. the character creator is nowhere near as bad as FO3 or demon's souls, but i really hope it gets an upgrade in DA2.

Not without mods, All my elves look so hideous I never could bring myself to play with one, with face/hair mods etc though I managed to create an elf I actually liked.

I like to think it's possible...here's my Dalish, made with pure character creator.

Females can be cool enough indeed. It's just that the male faces all look alike. Like all of Ferelden is some sort of inbred elven lands.

Seconding this, particularly the toolset, since it lets you fine-tune things the character creator makes a bit opaque. (And if you create your character's model as a preset, you can always tweak it inside the character creator, too -- it's easier to do hair and eyes in the CC, I've found.)Eudaemonium wrote...

My CE's portrait isn't so great, but in-game:

I made a decent looking Mahariel in the CC, although I did cheat and use non-standard hair:

Most of my elf males have turned out pretty good, and different-ish.
But i dunno how i do it specifically (PS3) i just move the sliders 'n' stuff.
And all my humans/dwarfs look ridiculous.
Sorry, no screenies to show

My elf looked awesome.
I would show you, but then I'd have to change my avatar picture again. You'll just have to trust me on this one. All it takes is a bit of patience and fine tuning.

Personally I've found that, with the pure CC, most characters of the same race and gender end up looking a bit too similar (a lot of human males look liek each other, same for elf males). I think its that the head shape is pretty defining. And it doesn't help that there isn't a great deal of variation between presets that you can use as a base. You can tweak the facial features a lot more in the toolset which means you can create more unique-looking characters, and not just an army of clone with different coloured hair.

There.
I've changed my profile picture to prove it.
EDIT: It's been brought to my attention that you said Elven women can look awesome, so... I shall change my profile photo back and leave the room quietly.

And how do I go about using the toolset to create something brilliant
? Is there some tutorial?

I'm rather fond of my herd of elves. Admittedly, I am using mods, but aside from hairstyle, my current avi was made using all standard options. If you want more options for character creation on the PC, I suggest Facial Features all-in-one Pack: includes Bidelles Makeup Studio, CC Extra Tints and Tones, Chargen Package, Dr. DJ Bandit Emporium, Gizmodian Facework, More Hairstyles, Pineappletree's Vibrant Colors, Planes Traveller Appearance Package, Tatouages/Facial Tattoos, Tribal Hair, Nero Hair, Got my hair - on my face, pack of face tattoos, Wolf pack of scalp tattoos - complete, PAngel Eyes, FDB Skins, Dracomies True Textures (included in Dragon Age Redesigned), Tucked Hair (and optional hairstyle with earrings) found here.

Thanks for the links. First I'll try using the toolset. I like my games unmodded. Although using a toolset is on the verge of that notion.

Not sure if others would consider it "awesome", but I love the look of the Elf used as my forum Avatar, which I created using the basic creation tools (no mods used).
