To Fear the Toolset!

however, after doing a lot more reading and some experimentation I have changed my view dramatically... it now seems quite possible to create not only playable mods, but fully developed and very enjoyable adventures to an already great gaming experience....
My time is unfortunately limited due to work and such... so progress will be slow, but I will be working with this toolset for a long time to come and having a blast doing it... so much can be done with it to add to or change the game itself that it has me completely hooked, much as the NWN toolset has become a total addiction for the past few years... lol
The toolset is a bit intimidating at first, but stick with it, there is light at the end of that long tunnel!!

I'm really glad that you are feeling enthusiastic about getting started creating your own adventures with the toolset... please remember that at first it will be frustrating at times and you may feel that you want to give up after trying again and again to make something work and it just keeps having problems, but know that if you are persistent it will pay off and you'll see your ideas and creations come to life before you know it...
and that's when its really all worth the effort... as you can see by some of the amazing content that the artists here are uploading...
Best of luck to you, dont give up and you will succeed!!
and thanks mikemike37 and Lord of Fangs!!

What I dislike is the level editor, it's quite hard to find that wall or that floor and the walls don't snap properly and it sucks to have to cover it up. It's OK for outdoor levels, but creating custom-ish buildings is the most tedious thing there is, expecially when there's no doorframe piece. Every other editor is nice though.

I created a list to help others who were having the "I can't find the piece I want" frustration, it only deals with props though. The wiki model list lists most of the structural pieces.

The plain doorframe model is fhe_doorfrs_0.

You are the man for throwing this together. I bookmarked it twice.

I can't take credit for the model list on the wiki, only the list for props on the project page is mine. Hopefully it didn't come across that way!

Lord of Fangs, why not add your downloadable prop list as a link to the contest page? nice idea... i had ended up saving the whole page with pics to my computer... but the list is really helpful!

I'm using that one a lot really. And memorised some of the wall and floor pieces, actually I have recently discovered the search function and found the door frame by searching "doorfr" and a well model by searching for it. Making the roofs for the outdoor houses is quite difficult and tedious, because for every movement, they drop down to the ground....very annoying really.Lord of Fangs wrote...

But when you have spent hours trying to make that vision of yours, it will be awesome.

This doesn't work 100% of the time (and in the times it doesn't, I usually have to restart the toolset) but to make that stop, you can click the little magnet button on the upper bar (Change Snap Options) and turn off Enable Snap to Surface.
