cannot start Me2 after a hard drive change

Description:
my wd raptor  died the other day, played to where i had only Thane Krios loyalty
quest left and was about to go to the iif of the reaper and my harddisk died.

after much searching i found my trusty ide  wd 250 hard disk installed windows,
installed the drivers  for my motherboard updated windows then re downloaded me2
installed it , started the luancher it asked if i accepted  for it to look for release
date which i did, after that nothing happened. when i start the luancher now and click
play nothing is happening,

reinstalled redownloaded and installed still the same. anyone that can help here ?

a friend told me to install steam even if the mass effect 2 wasn't dl'ed from there, and then the ea registration came up hope this help others
