just thinking back to when i was using the GPS on miranda's loyalty mission on my sentinel insanity playthrough
i don't recall other shotguns have the same brief knockback effect, and i didn't have any ammo powers on. i was able to keep the boss stunlocked for a time until i had to reload.
i have also noticed that a fully charged GPS shot has the capability to knock back a foe quite a ways after killing him.
does the GPS just have more of an impact than other shotguns?
geth plasma shotgun = stunlock capabilities?

Scimitar stuns fairly often, that and the high ammo count are two of the reasons I've always found it to be the most forgiving shotgun.

I've seen this too, but I'm not a shotgun expert, and have mainly used the GPS (b/c it's awesome).

All shotguns have that stagger effect. I used to stunlock Eclipse Vanuards to death all the time with the Katana + melee.

Why worry about stunlock for a gun that OHKO's?

...Because Scimitar and uncharged GPS doesn't OHKO.

Ammo conservation and the fact that it's sometimes overkill on enemies. Efficency is key. Also, it's faster.AdamNW wrote...

2 seconds out of cover can kill you.

Cause it's crap for charging. Charging it up and then charging is pretty wasteful, and regular charging is a pain because there is a gp between when you hit the trigger and when the weapon actually fires. I actually think the GPS is the worst vanguard shotgun in the game.

Yeah. I'm not a fan of charging the GPS. I don't like being exposed and idle for that long on Insanity.

Because a lot of the time, it's easier to simply fire the gun twice.

Except if you are using Heightened Adrenaline Rush.
With Hardened, you can fire the GPS twice. With Heightened, you can fire it once.

I love how you can cancel the GPS's fire animation with melees or skills.
Shot + drain + shot = dead loki mech + recharged shields in less than a second.

Vanguards need quick burst damage, and short downtime in between shots. I had much more success with the eviscerator or scimitar.

I'm going to say no. Eviscerator staggers all the time - and I shudder to think how far some enemies fly with a decent Claymore blast.curly haired boy wrote...

The GPS has the weakest knockback effect I believe.

was playing around with the GPS on that one mission where mercs come at you while a file is decoding
it's still great on my vanguard with my traditional playstyle, but it's also really good for softening up a group before you charge in. one shot can take a large chunk off several mercs' shields, so when you do get up close and personal you can finish them off quicker.

GPS has got one thing going; range. I have my squadmates equiped with the GTS, they can fire at really long tactical ranges.
Garrus recruitment mission, the part where the mech show up, i sniped them with the shotgun, standing next to Garrus xd
edit: tested the gun again, and found ways to charge up the gps by standing behind cover, instead of covering. very usfull as vanguard, you charge up th gun, then charge your enemy, and complete it by letting go of the fire button.

I've been at it with the GPS for quite a while now, and I guess it's appropriate to share a vid here demonstrating how I've been handling the gun so far. Here's the Jedore fight (by means of non-fully powered up overcharge shots accompanied with simultaneous melee attacks in consecutive succession):
