Well what is your favorite series and why. Mine is Mass Effect because the graphics are much better. Also there are more companions. 3rd it's more cinematic. 4th the gameplay is easier to get into...
I love Dragon Age too but Mass Effect is better
What's better the Mass Effect series or the Dragon Age series and why?

I never really got into DA:O and I didn't really like it all that much. So Mass Effect gets my vote.

mass effect series wins hands down for me. DA:O is worth playing once or twice, nice story and characters, but not that good, and it's expansion and DLC's are trash (except for the Shale one and the warden's keep one wasn't too bad either).

I'm sort of torn, I love both of them.
DA:O is where I can think, and be all tactical and Midevil, where ME is like, fast paced action and Guns. So I can't choose, honestly. They both have their ups and downs, I certainly like DAOs characters better then DA2s.

I love them both but out of the two Mass Effect, because I like the setting better. Also, Liara > Morrigan.

I like both equally, for different reasons, they aren't even in the same category of game imo.

DAO for being a better RPG and ME2 for being an overall better game.

THe games are very different, so it's hard to comparte them. But overall the winner is:
DAO
Better-drawn companions with personalities and agendas (Allistair never once tells me he's in the middle of calibrations)
Longer, more epic story
More choices with consequences
Better inventory system than either ME game (of course, the bar wasn't set all that high)
Better customization of characters
Squad banter Morrigan hitting on Sten is funny, in a vaguely creepy way.

Still on the fence with DA.
I found that I didn't mind re-playing ME 1 or 2 because most of the missions weren't too bad...
But I donno. Some of DA's levels were a big yawn and the thought of re-doing Ozzamar and that Mage Tower w/ the sloth Demon just turns me off... and why can't you start off with your weapons and armor if you did? ( Unless I'm missing something).
Cliche ridden too... I saw LOTR all over the place from armor to sub-plots.
ME was different all togther.
This is not to discount DA, it was a good game for what it was and I suggest people buy it but compared to ME.... ME wins.

I've played both, and Mass Effect wins easily. I loved DA but not on the same level.
Every time I go on the DA forums I get the impression that they all hate mass effect... which really bugs me and it has turned me off to exploring the series further.

Mass effect no question. Everything is just better.
However, Dragon Age's character creation(Human) is far superior to Mass effect, I don't see why they didn't improve ME2's creation if DA's was so nice and the games were released close together. And freedom with dialogue was nice.

Me2 has more polish looks prettier. The gameplay mechanics of DA are more developped and better thought out.

Mass Effect. The story is more developed, the characters are much more easily related to, the world is more varied, and the background to the characters, the locations, the technology, and all the items in the game are much better developed by their background information and characters talking about them.
Dragon Age is good... but I find the future and truly plausible technology and space travel to be much more interesting then swords and magic.

Mass Effect. The world building is phenomenal, I love my squadmates and I'm more attached to Shepard than any PC I've ever played. Dragon Age is an excellent game but ME is a step above.

That would be Mass Effect.
DAO was fun really, the story was great, loved the characters and the scope of the game. Also loved the music and voice over. So all in all, DA is probably one of the best games I have played in recent years.
BUT: Mass Effect is simply the greatest franchise I have encountered. I love the games and the novels (don't like the comics but they are only small and insignificant part).
The universe and its scifi background are complex rich and very well thought through. The earth and inter species politics have a lot of potential for great stories well beyond the game trilogy.
The art style is simply amazing and beautiful.
I was already taken after reading revelation. Then I played the first game and thought it was the best game I had played to that date. Ascension was a nice interlude. And although I am not 100% happy with all the decisions the writers made for ME2, the gameplay, cinematic experience and emotional engagement were all in all superb and after finishing it for the first time, I still sat through the credits in awe of a wonderful game. Now I am looking forward to reading Retribution on my next holiday, and of course ME3 and the movie.
To sum i up: DA:O is a really great game but it never stood a chance against Mass Effect for me.

its pretty hard to compare
Dragon age is as long as ME1+ME2 combined
ME universe has more interesting story and cinematic feeling
Dragon age is more of a "old school rpg" when in mass effect is something completly diffrent
Personally I like mass effect more than DA, and thats just becose of the story, however Dragon Age is also allways a good choice when you want to just lay back and play a game without worrying that its gona end too fast

DA is at the moment my favorite fantasy game and setting. The game was fun to play, story was okay, but the team banter was fantastic. I have to say I really enjoyed all characters. I also love the concept for the series to carry over decision and shape Thedas while not always playing the same character.
ME is by far my favorite SciFi background. No questions about that. Great lore, full of detail and realism. I love it. I also felt a great connection to Shepard. The whole game is a great cinematic experience. Characters were good, but had by far too few lines.
From a gaming point of view, ME series is by far more developed. It just seems that especially looking at ME 2 everything was finished. No level is just a hub from another mission (both ME 1 and DA:O had that). Great attention to detail. Great stories on all main or loyalty missions. So ME is for me the more "mature" game from the development point of view and I simply enjoyed it more.

Brilliant topic, which has caused me to really think about these two series. I am a massive Mass Effect fan (1,2 & All DLC for Both) but had never even contemplated playing DA:O before. However, last month being a console gamer, I found myself in the game store desperatly trying to find a new game that I could play. That visit led to me making the switch to PC by the way. Anyway, after much debate with myself, I came home with DA:O. I simply wasn't impressed at all at 1st but then made it to Ostagar and something clicked. What a game. I have since bought, Awakening, Stone Prisoner, Wardens Keep and The Golems DLC. Now, to compare the two is difficult indeed. Whilst I will probably always side with ME, the role playing aspect of DA:O is simply superb! The DLC is fabulous if rather expensive. The story is great, but so is ME. At this point I will wait for DA2 as I have ME1 & ME2. The improvement between ME1 & 2 was vast so I expect the same with DA2. I will say this, Bioware simply put, have produced two of the best game series there are! I am now thinking about the warhammer series on PC, but need to look into it. I havent played anything on it yet.

mass effect hands down. dragon age just didnt apeal to me. the characters were boring, there was practicaly no pace. there was nothing for me at least to relate to. the darkspawn are meh and very one dimensional. i stopped playing after about 7 hours... i couldnt be bothered with it anymore.
i'm sure that its great for some people but mass effect has much more apeal to me than dragon age. but the again i am a sci-fi nerd so... yeah
