This. It would be better suited in the Off-Topic section. You get fair answers there, too.Mike- Hawke wrote...
You ask this on the Mass Effect forums.......?
For what it's worth, I love them both, but Mass Effect happens to appeal a lot more to me.

Personally, I like them both. ME and DA are very different.

Also, I have done fantasy my whole life, so Sci-Fi is a nice change of pace.

I love them both but out of the two Mass Effect, because I like the setting better. Also, Liara > Morrigan.
Who likes oversized smurfs with cornrows...

This question has been asked before on both the ME and DA forums. On the ME forums the responses are always in favor of ME. On the DA forums the responses are always in favor of DA.
Duh.
Personally, while I like both, I find ME more compelling. I'm a shooter by trade anyway.

As for the grafics, Dragon Age with JBtextures has hardly worse grafics than Mass Effect (1) and it even shares many animations.
ME (1) has a higher appeal to me at first due to the setting which is a homage to old school scifi other than the done to death fantasy setting of DA. However, I feel that DA has a lot more depth and many characters that don`t appear so interesting in the begining really grow due to lots of dialogue, interaction and reaction with the environment and other party members. That is something which the first ME only had to very small extends and is completely missing from the sequel, where each character gets their 15 minutes of fame and end up beeing mindless slaves that follow you arround for the rest of the game, totally ignoring others and the environment. Their only point is too look cool. DA is a lot more mature in that regard, which for me leads to more involvement.

DAO is more to traditional RPG in fantasy. I liked it tactical combat, but story and gameplay is little booring. Npcs and companions using voice as background talk is great idea. RPG attributes and skills just sucks. In general it's nice game but I would put this in same category as Kotor 1.
Mass Effect serie is more cinematic sci-fi action adventure. ME1's story and atmosphere is great, but combat isn't really that good. More like leeroy style of combat. In ME2 the combat is better, but story is suffering from so many companion related missions. Both ME's has full voice acting, even on players character.
Both games are good to play, but I think I would choose Mass Effect, if I had to pick just one. Mostly because Mass Effects are "bigger" experience than DAO. DAO is like mmorpg with better graphics.

It may or may not be an advantage for DA that DA2 isn't available yet...

Mass Effect pros:
Strong characters in 2
Epic, cinematic story
Distinctive, lush art design complimented by detailed graphics
Fun shooter mechanics, especially in 2
Brilliant soundtrack
Cons:
Lackluster interaction between NPCs
Weak inventory- too needlessly complex in 1, a bit oversimplified in 2
Dragon Age pros:
Great characters and interaction between characters
Epic, cinematic story
Decent inventory management
Cons:
Nondescript art design and subpar graphics
Combat can get boring
Unremarkable soundtrack

That was until I played the Mass Effect games.
Now I still love DA and played it 6 times to see all origins variations and all endings. The thing was combat got a bit dull on my first playthrough. So after 6 I dread playing it again. Im looking forward to WH on Tuesday but Id love to be able to get the story without the endless repetitive combat. I have all the DLC and Awakening and I have to say DLC for the game is filth after Wardens Keep. Reused game levels just slightly altered. Loads of them were outside the storyline of the game and added nothing to the replay value of the game. They reeked of cheaop and cheerful nickle and dimeing DLCs.
ME DLC on the other hand with the exception of Pinnacle St. has been excellent, added to the game in terms of story and were all origional pieces of work. We didnt just get Jacks loyalty mission map given a few tweaks a slight recolour, throw in some new bad guys and call it Overlord. So for me the production values of the ME team are just much higher than DA.
So in summary DA has done some things better but Mass Effect is head and shoulders above.

Mass Effect for me. Perhaps because I'm not that big a fan of fantasy but a huge fan of sci-fi. Space opera, cyberpunk themes are just two of the reasons why I love Mass Effect. In fact, it brings everything I do love about sci-fi and meshes it all together.
Yes i totally agree!
Sci-Fi>Fantasy
space exploration is so much more interesting cause one day we will actually be doing this stuff!
Fantasy games/stories have just been overkilled for me.
