So of all the possible romances.....

My favorite is the Female City Elf and Zevran Romance.
An elf and elf romance just seems perfect, and they both come from similar backgrounds. Living in poverty and a thirst for blood and gore. Both had something tragic happen to them that affects their life in some way.
The female human noble and Alistair romance is second i guess. Especially if you marry them together.
Being queen of Ferelden and marry the person you actually love.....ranks as one of the top happy endings i would say.

I also like Elf Mage and Zevran - I like to think he represents something exotic to them after being locked up in the tower for so long.

Yea, sorry for me that IS a turn off. Zevran is my PC's BFF but I've never been able to complete his romance.

Zevran's romance, though, is deeper than it first appears. He might have slept with a lot of people but the warden is the first person he has really given his heart to, which is quite touching.
Still, I'm always doomed to want romances with the non-romanceable characters (I really wish Nathaniel had been an option in Awakening).

Yeah, I guess we all have our sticking points. I can never complete Alistair's (despite being female and him being the female-only romance) because I can't bring myself to kill Loghain.

I am guessing that the idea of redeeming the 'Bad Boy' is an attractive one for both romances and as friends.
But the notion that the Warden is the first one to win the Elf's heart appears to be based solely on the assassin's words, and I would make the assertion that trust should be earned. Guess I am biased against such a character in RL, so I find myself in some disbelief so many take him at face value.

A term of endearment (like "baby); someone who is so cute/sad/adorable you want to hug and comfort them.

Ha, I thought I was the only one who got utterly bored by the time a got to know Zevran a bit. He suffers from the bestest-boyfriend-in-all-of-Thedas syndrome.Elhanan wrote...

Player: Um, Zev, I'm going to marry the handsome blonde who has been pining over me for about a year, so I can have more power. Maybe I'll sleep with him, you know, whatever is necessary.
Zevran: Go ahead, mi amor. I shall stay by your side and worship the earth you walk on. This will have no impact on our relationship because what we have is twu wuv and never shall I stray from the path of unquestioning faith and loyalty. I'm ridiculously awesome.
Player: Yeah, ridiculous is the word I was looking for, thank you. Grow a pair and betray me already! What did the Crows teach you? A silver-tongued Warden is batting her eyelashes at you and your backbone is melting into a puddle of squeeeeeee?
Alistair, hopp hopp. Tent now! What? You refuse? Dammit! Wait, I killed Connor and I'm going to spare Loghain! *enjoys the tantrum*
Edit: I never played a male so Morrigan is out of question, but still interesting. She leaves in the end no matter how big my balls of steel are. And Leliana is a funny little piece of contradiction, I prefer her bardic version.

Loghain...*ICK* but I could really get behind a Nathaniel romance. He has a darkness to him but he also is a gentleman and gets really sweet if you get his approval up with you.
Nate/Cous would be unbelievably hot and I want to do a fic for it, but running into writers block lately

I find it funny that you think Loghain is icky while Nate is hot, given that Nate actually looks like a younger Loghain. Or is it just a personality thing?

Yes, a Nate-Cousland romance would have been awesome and drama-packed.

Its the difference in personality. At first when I saw Nathaniel all I could see was "HOWE" but as time passed he grew on me. He's really sweet and a real gentleman. (And that's how I write him) Of all the companions in Awakenings he is my favorite.
For me the Loghain turn off is his personality. He's too much like my old man (whom I never got along with).

And is Zevran or Leliana staying with a HN who gets married really so much different than the mistress ending of the Alistair romance?
I think it's an interesting thing, though, the contrasts between Alistair's and Zevran's romances. When they fall in love, the one you'd expect to get on one knee instead gives the, "Wow, you ask hard questions, I don't know where we're going," talk, and the one you'd expect to back off instead may end up proposing. In many cases, Alistair needs to be convinced that sex is not that important in order to stay with the warden (5 of the 6 origins if he becomes king), whereas Zevran ends up with sex and love so completely entwined he can't be with the warden without a commitment for the future.
Neither is better than the other -- just both romances start and end in different places, and both are fantastic stories with all sorts of unexpected twists.
As far as it being about redeeming the bad boy? No, I don't think it's about that at all. It's more, at least for me, as you get to know the character, you realize the incredible strength, wit, intelligence, leadership qualities, and surprising kindness and compassion he has. There's just as much to love with him as there is with any of the other characters. All of them are a bit too good to be true.

If you wait till after the Landsmeet that's not the response you get to that question. He says he's not going to give you up. Prior to that he really doesn't know because he hasn't considered the implications of what's going on. And with Alistair sex/love are intertwined enough to where he won't ask you to tent times unless he's at Love.
Unfortunately with Zevran, you never get told he loves you (Even when you are going up to die on the top of Fort Drakon) nor (from what I understand) does he just spontaneously propose to you, you have to force the issue with the earring? *on this point I may be wrong since I have never been able to complete the Zevran romance*
