I have these black boxes/bars in the background of the Journal screen, the Tactics screen, and some inventory icons (instead of the proper icons for some items; all I can see is a black square). It's making it very difficult to read the text.

I'm using an 8600GT with the latest driver. I tried rolling back to an older driver but this still persists.

Any help?

should work doesn't act in the same way as a link does.
