Anybody else think awakening's quality was way lower than DAO?

I'm torn on Awakening. There's stuff I love about it, and stuff I dislike or just plain hate.

The Good

- Some fun, amusing, interesting and/or likeable companions in Anders, Nathaniel, Sigrun and Justice.
- Vigil Keep is a much, much, much better base of operations than 'Camp'. Quests and encounters take place there, there's sub areas to mess around in, and your efforts elsewhere in Amaranthine help improve the keep's defenses.
- Some lovely areas to explore. Kal'Hirol was a lot prettier and less one-note to run around in than the Deep Roads, and the Wending Woods and Black Marsh were better than the two remaining major areas in DA:O too (Brecillian Forest and Frostback Mountains). A lot shorter? Yep, but I like the areas themselves better.
- The City of Amaranthine seemed a lot more lively and city-like than Denerim, where a lot of the action took place away from the central hub (the market place).
- Better enemies. The Architect and Mother were more interesting than most of the DA:O enemies. Electrical Ghost Dragon > High Dragon.
- Awakening Fade > Origins Fade. >.>

The Bad

- The biggest issue I have with Awakening is that it's short. DA:O can keep me occupied for 50 hours, Awakening doesn't even provide me with half of that (for more than half the price, if I remember correctly...)
- Related to the first point, the characters and your relationship with them just isn't as fleshed out as it is in Origins. Not a whole lot of conversations, no romance options (even though at least three of my companions were in love with me according to their hate/like/love bar thingies >.>), personal quests that are either impossible to obtain or complete if you take one wrong turn somewhere and end up fighting for Vigil's Keep/Amaranthine when you complete the main quests.
- Velanna. I mean, GOOD LORD WOMAN I AM TRYING TO BE NICE HERE. The next journal I find will be SMACKED IN YOUR FACE.
- Disconnection to Origins. Having Alistair show up at the start was nice, but when my first reaction is "Can I come back with you and return to the role of Queen?" the early game REALLY failed to capture my interest. Meeting Wynne was lackluster too, though I was still happy to see her (probably because I wasn't attached to my new companions yet when I ran into her).
- WHERE is my dog? I hated not having my dog with me as a Human Noble. There was no way my Cousland was leaving her dog behind anywhere.
- The epilogue. It pretty much suggested (for my human noble) that she'd leave Alistair and vanish? Le meh.

Just finished Awakening. I liked it.

I'm always impressed with BioWare's storytelling, and several added game mechanics, like Vigil's Keep and spaced-out companion interactions, really helped provide a nice flow for events. I also really enjoyed how powerful my characters were. Massacre on my Warrior just felt right--it's absolutely true to its name.

However, all of that said and as much as I do enjoy BioWare's stories, I was a bit disappointed with this story. It felt a bit predictable. No spoilers so I'll just say that I loved hating the darkspawn in DA:O, and they were much harder to hate in Awakening.

It was definitely fun and entertaining, but I feel like it softened the cruelty of the darkspawn, and that makes me sad. I really enjoyed having the recklessly evil villain.
