I doubt this practice applies to LadyHawke however.

You like brain buckets (K-pot) over the ACH? :D   /sorry for diverting the thread

People need to relax on the realism bit. This is supposed to be a fantasy game, and the last time I checked, long hair is not as far fetched as fireballs and Ogres.

You don't have to move in a certain direction simply because someone grabs your hair. You can resist until the hair breaks and leaves you with aforementioned bald patch. Regardless, I would see a bun working much better than a long pony tail.

You will. Where you're head is suddenly jerked or pulled the rest of your body is likely to follow. You'd have to see it coming and brace yourself. If your enemy has you off guard and just yanks you this way, you're going torso is going to follow and so are your legs.

The bun would work but I'd be curious to see if it might interfere with the helmet somehow.

In any case, it's a game. I will make my characters look as pretty as I please, and wear oodles and oodles of make-up and you can't stop me. *gestures to avatar* My Hawke will reapply eyeliner before tending to her wounds, alright? :D

Well on that issue it's not so much about that but - granted this is in real life not videogames - soldiers tended to cut their hair (and facial hair) short so that if they lost their helmet, or didn't have one, the enemy couldn't simply grab hold of their hair because it would put them at a disadvantage.

A long ponytail swinging around can be a liability if someone grabs it and yanks hard.

Thats true, but a tight bun is acceptable to the military, right? Because it's very close to the scalp and can't be grabbed easily. Also, I'd rather someone with a sword grabbed my hair than swinging at me with said weapon. I might have a bald patch after, but atleast I'd be alive  ;)

I've noticed some women have trouble finding a kevlar that fits comfortably because of the bun

Thought I'm not sure how big a problem that would be though in Ye Old Times when armor wasn't manufactured.

It has been done, and today's kevlar are not like their predecessors.  However, this thread is about what we want for how "Femme" Hawke, and in ancient times, armor (as someone states) was unnecessary.

This  is about "ancient" Greek-Spartans women. Let us please stay on topic.

Not to mention if someone grabs all the hair on your head at once like in a ponytail, it's not going to come off unless it damn near takes your scalp with it.

I would love to see a fanart contest. Even just seeing all the entries would be amazing. Although, we've already had plenty of awesome fanart in the original Lady Hawke thread.

Yus! And since i am atm drawing a fanart myself i could maybe sneak a free copy of da 2! :P But nuuuuu :((
I still think we should create another lady hawk thread though. Just to save the fanart of the old thread. =]

Sorry if I like having two more inches of my face covered in combat. Also, mine fit perfectly before they took it away from me. I was a sad panda that day. ACU is also the ugliest pattern ever. EVER.

Yep, lots of half-naked eskimos hanging out in the arctic.

The context being...hanging around naked at the Arctic parties? Wearing useless and ridiculous armor conventions?

A person who spend his life living in cold could survive for longer naked  than a person who lived his entire life on the beach.

If her breasts are tense enough you won't be able to do that. Bethany, on the other hand, looks all soft and flaccid.

Bethany: You pretend you're so cool, but my breasts were always bigger then yours.
Hawke: Yeah, but men don't like when they're like formless rotten melons with big blue veins.

Bethany disapproves -30.

I don't think anyone is arguing that she shouldn't have long hair, per se, so much as justifying why she has short hair.

Ding ding!

We have a winner.  I could probly be labelled as responsible for this whole short-hair-combat-practicality distraction but that's the general point.  Short hair can be beneficial in combat.  But my LadyHawke isn't going to be pulling a Jack with her hairdo.  It was just a silly point.  Feel free to move on.
