This is just like Gamescom it seems.... I fail to understand why BioWare wants us people to form impressions of DA2 based on crummy, tiny videos. If the game is ready to be played by the public at Gamescom or PAX, whats taking so long to release some gameplay video on the internet? There area a ton of games coming out next year and later than DA2 that have gameplay vids up, whats the deal with DA2?

According to the podcast, Mike Laidlaw's excuse for not being at PAX was too much travel, but David Silverman was at Gamescom too, and yet there he is.

If I had to guess, they want your ass to be there, and not get free footage without paying up first. They might show that same demo in a few more cons and expos, so they don't want people not showing up because they'd seen it already.

I doubt they will comment on this. But this way of 'hyping' their games is certainly ineffective. 

And yet people are still sitting here watching them. Sounds like it's working pretty effectively to me.

The slow trickle of info is especially annoying.

I mean, for example:

Arkham City- coming out late next year, just released about 20 good screens a couple days ago
The Witcher 2- coming out about the same time as DA2, has gameplay video and tons of screens up
Shogun 2- I have no clue when thats coming out, but they just released a new gameplay video yesterday
Gears of War 3- Coming out in April 2011 and has gameplay videos and screens galore
Crysis 2- coming out in the end of March 2011, has tons of video and screens out
Dead Space 2- coming out end of January, has tons of gameplay vids and screens out
KillZone 3- again I think its coming out in February 2011- has plenty of vids and screens out

I guess maybe BioWare wants to just blitz everyone closer to launch, but then why bother announcing and revealing the game back in early July if you're not going to build on that momentum at all? Instead we've got boatloads of inaccurate previews and countless interviews (no offense to the devs) saying the same thing.


The best damn marketing you can give a game is just to show the gameplay and let the game do the talking.

Yeah, one window on one monitor while I eat and watch Farscape on the bigger screen, inbetween taking care of my daughter -
giving the stream the second monitor really isn't me paying rapt attention or anything.

Diablo 3, due sometime in the next decade, has already shown gameplay. I mean, my god, even Blizzard has beat them to this.

Diablo 3 has been in development longer than DA2.  And will probably be released next year too.

To be fair, there is something to be said about being lost in the mix. Why would they want to be just another blurb on some G4 coverage of a convention alongside their rivals when they can release information alone and stand out?

That said, it has been too long.

They are prob. trying to polish graphics, etc before showing gameplay videos which are going to be watched by LOTS of people. They have to compete somehow with that monster called Witcher 2, i guess its not smart showing unpolished gameplay to millions of people when this people watched gameplay of another game that looks really good.
