Oh, shoot, that's right. That -is- being made by BioWare, isn't it? That said, though... I'm not so sure it'd be all that different from anything we've seen already. Star Wars is a huge title and all, but the Old Republic era isn't that well known; as such, a lot of the content they could consider making lithographs of won't be nearly as well known and iconic. (Not to say there won't be exceptions to that, of course: any sort of Coruscant litho, for example, probably would vanish in less than a day, I'll bet. If not faster.)

Anything Star Wars would sell out immediately, though I highly doubt Treehouse would have the rights to make Star Wars branded lithos.

I would LOVE to see some Bioshock lithos though, I know they aren't affiliated with Bioware or Visceral, but those would be amazing.

There are 2 Bioshock lithos in the 2k store though they are "poster" lithos instead of concept art or something similar. I have the Dr. Steinman one framed and on my wall, it looks bloody awesome.  They are unsigned/number and I would say not limited, simply a nice litho.

Why wouldn't they be able to make Star Wars lithos just as they've made ME2 and other lithos? If Bioware made the game, then they can sell merchandise relating to the game. At least I think that's it. Is Bioware limited by Lucas to only use the name for the game and nothing else?

I would assume that LucasArts would hold all the rights and produce any merchandise themselves. They probably wouldn't want EA/BioWare/Treehouse getting a cut of their own intelletual property outside of making the game. They probably have their own suppliers to make the merchandise too.

I think I'm with erik on this.  If Bioware create their own game based in the Star Wars universe and they use their own concept artists to create unique drawings to use in the SWTOR's design, I don't see why LucasArts would want any involvement with what Bioware do with their own drawings and creations and if they chose to sell them as Lithographs or not.

LucasArts may want royalties for permission to use the Star Wars franchise in artwork sales, but I have no doubt Bioware have probably already negotiated that contract and agreed to pay a percentage on any related sales.  It's in best financial interest of everyone that Bioware is sucessful with this game and generate as much hype and sales as possible through various means.

To my mind, LucasArts will be really happy for Bioware to create Lithographs and merchandise and sell it to their fan base.  So long as they're getting cut from whatever sales go through the till, everyone's a winner!

+ 1.  There's some really sweet concepts being shown over at www.swtor.com/media/concepts if you haven't already checked them out.  A personal favourite is this one: www.swtor.com/media/concepts/space-combat-1.  How cool would that look in frame!

Depends on the language of the license.

Given the history that George Lucas has personally with merchandising rights though, I doubt it.  It was one of the few rights he was able to retain in exchange for bankrolling A New Hope and allowed him to partially finance The Empire Strikes Back and maintain his independence(along with millions in loans).  I wouldn't be surprised if Lucas Arts held onto the merchandising rights to The Old Republic, since they are the property holder.

I own '1959' by Craig Mullins and it's beautiful. (The same Mr. Mullins who did a ME2 poster. I've seen the poster in the CE of the strategy guide and I've always liked the BioShock setting so I just bought the BioShock image when I found it.)

I hope that particular artwork will get the signed litho treatment. The poster is nice, but so... foldy.

When they announced the beta test sign ups it brought Bioware's servers down for the entire day.

-Every- friend I know of in both LotR's Online and WoW is talking about moving to the game.  No, it's going to be huge.

As for Bioware being able to produce litho's they're already selling ToR shirts, backpacks and a limited edition statue.  Not to mention the comics....

MERCHANDISING MERCHANDISING MERCHANDISING... where the -real- money is made.

I think they own the rights to all the work they produce for the game.

edit- well I guess I'll take that back for now, as none of it's actually sold in the official Bioware store.. I'm sure both sides are getting a cut however.  I would think too that Bioware can produce litho's and give a cut to Lucas.  Id be surprised if we didn't see any.

September Lithograph Update - We are back to two Lithographs Pragia and Purgatory for this next round. The artist who created the character design is based at a different BioWare location and is not available to sign. I did learn today that there will be three character designs released over the next 1-2 rounds.

Is there any chance of us at least getting a little hint as to who the delayed litho would have been?

I'm willing to wager that Tali is somewhere in the mix...Or Thane?...Maybe in the next round if not intended for the Pragia/Purgatory round. But then again, I'm usually wrong about stuff like this.

Edit: Also, both of those are just wishful thinking/hoping for me =)

Aw come on man, Jedi, your killing me, you teased us about this character litho all month long, and now at the last minute, it's not happening? You weren't real clear though, is it just delayed to the next round, or permanently off the table because of the artist's location?

Sweet thanks for the update, any estimate of when Pragia and Purgatory will be up for sale/presale?

Well, I could careless about Pragia and Purgatory, especially if they are the images I posted earlier or at all for that matter. Just wasn't a big Jack fan. That would make the first time I don't purchase something on a litho release. Of course, character lithos a few days later. If anyone from ME1 or Tali or Grunt, I'll be whipping my wallet back out.

Well hopefully something in the next two weeks as I won't be around for a week after that and it would very much suck to lose out again like Illium. :(

I'll announce the character Lithographs after this next round goes up for sale. We're hoping to have by next Friday, but it may be early the following week.

I'm actually kind of glad people aren't that excited about these. Maybe we can get these to the REAL fans then, instead of people who want to re-sell them on ebay. Things that sell out real quick are always going to favor the scalpers.
