:unsure:i'm not interested in LI stuff... in shephard sense it's considered interference and imposed impedance.

how come they can't just be a normal non-emotional crew member? What professional positions onboard a ship that's available for them to legitimately work?
i mean shephard's allowed to have pets on the normandy right?
how come their character just can't be a yeoman, or a personal assistant or something?
are we allowed to label a quarian as a diplomatic/non-enslaved "pet" (using hypothetical 2nd class citizen stuff with more democracy as a alternative option...where as they're not considered a slave or something)?

what are the hypothetical lenient options of having some alien remain onboard the ship that does not involve emotional liaison crap?

Well:

On Normandy SR-1: There were. They were Alliance Navy. Some saluted you, most never spoke. But you could talk to the chief engineer and the executive officer (Pressly) who were both career soldiers and very professional.

On Normandy SR-2: It's a civilian ship and while many I imagine have military training and experience, that changes the attitude of the crew.  You can choose to run the ship more military (referring to Kelly as Yeoman Chambers and demanding a salute from the engineer pair) but for the most part they're mercenaries and the same level of discipline and professionalism isn't to be expected.

It's my understanding that Tali, Garrus, Jacob and Miranda all have titled roles aboard the SR-2. Tali's the chief engineer, Garrus is the Gunnery Officer, Jacob is still head of security and the armory, Miranda's the XO. Grunt, Thane, Samara/Morinth, Jack, Zaeed, and Kasumi are the ones with no specific task aboard the SR-2. Mordin is Science & Research, though, without a specific title other than Professor.

The ME2 squaddies (and the ME1 squaddies, excepting Kaidan and Ash) are more like friends that Shepard is allowing to crash on his couch. Any titles given are signs of respect, not authority.

The "quarian Zorah" is in a slightly strange position in this respect. She considers herself part of the crew, though she's hardly been hired by Cerberus, nor would she actually sign on with them if it was laid out in those terms (here for Shepard, not for Cerberus, etc). Being "crew" means something different to quarians, though.

Normandy II operates more like a small private compan. There are ranks and positions, but the culture is informal. You can say Shepard is literally getting the band back together: Grunt on drums, lead guitar Garrus, Samara and Jack backup singer, Thane on bass, DJ Tali, Miranda and Jacob are the manager and the roadie, and the crew handles lighting, catering, pyrotechnics, groupies. People know their positions and it's necessary to keep things operational, but sleeping with each other are completely personal decisions. Jacob mentions this issue in his conversations, talking about trust, discipline, getting to know each other personally, etc.

so she's chief engineer... shouldn't that be apart of the science department too? medical science, bio-science, xenology, engineering science...?

but that still does not give a clear image of what position zorah actually have.

"Chief engineer" in this sense is ship's propulsion. Like Scotty in Star Trek.

The science department being Mordin. Like Spock in Star Trek.

BS. They where more of a friend then half of the suqad in ME2. They at least ask you how your doing? Who else does that? Only Jacob and Thane. You don't have to like Ash and Kai but don't say complete and utter BS.

but what about the other two original engineers on board?

and in the first mass effect 1, there was already another chief engineer of the alliance.

her name is zorah... so if she's apart of the crew then why is her character emotionally affectionate towards shephard? why isn't their character behaving in a platonic professional manner? i find the theme highly inappropriate.

:huh:eh... don't know about a tactical operatives group being compared to a band analogy.

Theoretical/research medicine yes.  Hence Professor Solus.

Practically no, that'd be Dr. Chakwas' job.

In real life there are research and practicing doctors.  The former works in a lab, the latter sees patients.

Plus on a small ship with a small crew - I'd guess somewhere around two dozen in total with all your allies - a lot of the work is shared among anyone qualified to participate.

Tali is her name. Zorah is her family. Normandy is her ship. Tali'Zorah vas Normandy. Tali, of family Zorah, of the ship Normandy.

Heh, when I'm stoned out of my gourd I sound the same.  I'm just much more long-winded because any hope of self-censorship or discretion flies out the window.  With the smoke, presumably.

/cool story bro

And Kelly has been on the ship longer then Shepard, all of the crew (not the squad, the crew) except for Joker have. What is your point? Call her whatever you want, TruYuri described her name perfectly.

You're misunderstanding me.  I was saying that Kaidan and Ash HAVE actual ranks, titles, and a place within the crew of the first Normandy.

Everyone else are just people that Shepard allows to come along with him.

Edit:  I like Ash and Kaidan anyway.
