I just got out of the mind flayers lair in the underdark. In terms of the main quest, how close am I to the end?


And lets say up to here, I have done about half of the side quests. About how many hours would you say there are left of side quests?

If you've done half the side quests and are still in Chapter 5, you have about 30% of the game to go, I'd think. It's hard to tell, because you can do a lot in Chapter 2 or save much of it until Chapter 6, and side-quests can be varying degrees of length.

It depends on which side quests those are. Some are short, like the circus tent illusionist and some are longish like the Unseeing Eye or Windspear Hills. In terms of the main quest you're approaching the end. There is a good bit left but the bulk of Baldur's Gate 2 is in chapter 2's side quests.

...OP, if you don't know exactly how many side quests are left or how long they will all take, how can you know if you've done 'about half of [them]' so far? Just curious...heh.

Anyways, to offer another suggestion, I believe a  completed par playthrough takes about 70-100 game days...now this could vary significantly due to how much you rest, how efficient your traveling is, how skilled a player you are, etc. - but it might be a better judge for how much of the game you have left...for instance, if your only on day 30 and your now doing the lairs of the underdark, I'd say you have quite a bit of the game left to go (though if you wanted to 'sprint for the finish' and knew what to do to get there, you could finish it in probably a few hours - assuming its just SoA)...

For the Elitists: Wasn;'t there a recent ('recent' as in over the past few years) competition on who could get to the underdark the fastest?...if I'm not crazy and there was such a competition, anyone know the result?

It took me about 140 hours to complete SOA ....but I took my time and really enjoyed the game .I did as many quests as possible

hehe. I know what you mean. I've had the game for more then a year now, and keep playing it on and off. Whenever it seems like I'm getting really into it, something comes up that keeps me from playing it. I just wanted to know how much is possibly left so that I can try to avoid me getting sidetracked.

I can tell I played through this game too many times now. The only thing I'm missing on that list is feeding those umber hulks in de'Arnise castle. I could never quite figure out how to do that. I would get the stew but the room where you put it seems to be beyond where the umber hulks are lying in wait. Nicely done, by the way. It's beautifully detailed.

He didn't write all the quests down. Sometimes he chose a route (for example he sided with the Shadow Thieves).

Right at the bottom with the other assembly items. And yes, I only included the Gaelen Bayle side for Chapter 3. Honestly, siding with Bodhi creeps me the hell out, and I'll never do it. I can't even stand playing dark side in KOTOR.

Since it's my list, I include what I want to include. It shouldn't be hard to stick the Bodhi stuff into the appropriate sections. Instead of "Talk to Aran Linvail", you'd be doing "Kill Aran Linvail", etc.

There are already several mutually exclusive choices in there, like hiring Bondari vs clearing the beholder caves yourself, or the multiple bows for Cespenar that all need the bowstring of Gond.
