sooo....was there any new info on hybrid specs like Arcane Warrior.....or rogue/mage hybrid spec?

He mentioned that trailer Hawke is a mage using blood magic, take that as you will.

Which remind me, Do you have to be a mage to use blood magic? Or you could be a warrior?

That would make you an arcane warrior. If you have the ability to use magic, you're considered a mage.

I'm not sure this is entirely true, the reaver warrior specialization is taught to you by kolgrim. His dialog describing the abilities he'd teach specifically says the line "there is great power in blood, and through andraste's guidance we have unlocked this power." That always lead me to believe that reavers tapped in to blood magic.

A dwarf can be a Reaver...so...not exactly.

Heres some descriptions of a few of the reaver abilities.

Devour: The reaver revels in death, absorbing the lingering energy of all nearby
corpses, each of which partially restores the reaver’s own health.

Aura of Pain: Radiating an aura of psychic pain, the reaver takes constant spirit damage while this mode is active, as do all enemies nearby.

Oh, has anyone mentioned David saying they are considering allowing Hawke's looks to influence how his/her Family's looks? That would be pretty cool.

They did it in Fallout 3.

The taint gives you the power to sense darkspawn. I don't call it magic because it doesn't seem like it's a willful use of mana or anything.

Yes, that was my question! He didn't confirm, but said they're looking into whether it's feasible.

A mage is someone who is born with the ability to manipulate magic. Normal people can use magic though other means (Templars, Reavers, Spirit Warriors), but they aren't considered Mages.

But yeah, Reavers are probably using some form of blood magic to fuel their abilites.

i think what the darkspawn taint does is just form a mental link between the person and darkspawn, because of the dreams and sense they have. Being magic yeah there is no expenditure of mana.

Varric:  "They were a hideous looking lot.....that Hawke family.  They made darkspawn look like fair maidens....."

How is that magical? Your body makes biological changes because of the taint, if you drank the blood of the "risen andraste" and underwent similar biological changes then i would consider it an analog.

Yeah, the only thing that sets mages apart from regular folks is their ability to perform magic based on will. Others can make use of it so long as they have something to act in place of a mage's will. For Templars it is lyrium and with Reavers it is blood.

I'm going to continue trying to force him to admit that DA was inspired by Seiken Densetsu 3.

I just remembered the Free Marches codex entry in Origins mentioned a Grand Tourney in Tantervale. I should probably ask him if that is going to happen in-game.

I was rather disappointed in people's reactions to David saying that EA wasn't the devil.

EA is kind of not the devil. the thing is they were able to bring some games multiplatform so that more people can experience it. For example crysis, DA, and Mass effect. so i dont think they are the devil. and a game going multiplatform doesnt mean the quality of the game will not go down neccesarily, unless they decide to port which is most likely the case.

I'm not saying reavers are blood mages, but i am saying they make
use of blood magic. So in that sense i agree. Also aren't you given the
dialog option of saying "this smells of blood magic" when Kolgrim ask
you to pour the blood in to the urn so the risen andraste can absorb the
residual power her "mortal" body left behind. That act itself doesn't
involve lyrium or mana, but its blood magic all the same, and thats the
essence of what i'm saying.

The original quote which i was replying to that started this tangent was "don't you have to be a mage to use blood magic?" My answer, was no you don't have to be a mage to utilize blood magic. But i would agree being a "blood mage" meant you needed to be a mage.

That live chat was awesome! I only got around to it towards the end but I'm looking forward to the next one tomorrow. I think I'll just watch though, asking him the same question a lot of times would just flood my twitter account.
