If we do, I'm thinking it'll be buried in some gameplay or story footage - blink and you miss it. Still, one can hope, especially now that M!Hawke has been heard.

Unfortunately, though, Garrett's Beard is the face of DA2, just like Sheploo was for ME2. Anything else flies under Marketing's radar.

Spot on really.  The Dev diaries have said that you can play as female but the casual gamer will only see the trailers which dont as Garrett is the face.

My big issue now though is hearing her voice actor.   The reason why many of us love femshep so much is in large part to Jennifer Hale and her nigh-on-perfect Voice acting!   The VA shouldnt be a deal breaker but it will be very important aspect in her overall sucess and our overall experience of the playthrough.

They actually have an interesting tweet from a producer at Bioware who states that although FemHawke is the fan favorite, male Hawke will be the lead in marketing..Posted Image

If this is accurate, then...

I understand they can't duplicate all of their marketing so that they could have male and female versions of all ads/videos. That would be nearly impossible. But iconic? Really?

I think Lady Hawke is getting more face time than FemShep, though. Even if that doesn't say much.

Iconic is a fun word but in the end it's meaningless. Its just sad that Bioware marketing dep doesn't better exploit the possibility to play as a woman. In today's world where a lot of young and less young women are drawn to reading fantasy and manga/comics, a gamebox or a tv spot emphasizing this possibility could draw new customers.

Yeah, FemShep sppears to be an enigma shrouded in mystery. It's just kind of weird that even with the success of DA:O (complete with an ambiguous silhouette on the cover) they would choose to have a male as the face when it wasn't needed in the first place..

What I don't understand about BioWare's reasoning is why all of their gameplay videos feature M!Hawke. Can't they have the female PC feature in one of them? "It will confuse people" is a little thin, as quite a few game reviewers have no problem featuring F!Hawke prominently (see: IGN). The image is out there, in front of gamers, one would think that the next step would be to attract female gamers who might otherwise think the game features a big bearded dude.

I would really like some Hawkette booty shots. I need to know if I'm playing a booty display class or a robe wearer.

This.

"It will confuse people?"  So make it clear.  Other companies do this already.

Actually, Houston says that femShep is the fan favorite, but I'm sure LadyHawke will not be far behind once she is revealed.  She will most likely surpass femShep if her hype matches her reality.

Also, iconic can also mean "easily recongnizable."  I don't think JH was saying He-Hawke was better, just that he will be BW's wh0re.

No.  She is a Reaper in disguise come to take away DudeHawke's beard and Varic's chest hair.

Has there been aby voice clips for FemHawke yet?

I never play female PC's given the choice, but I REALLY don't like the M!Hawke voice at this point. I mean, REALLY REALLY don't like. Can't imagine playing a whole game with that voice, don't like.

So I'm wondering how FemHawke sounds. . . .

I'm hoping so.

I really would like to get a voice clip here . . . . because even as a guy who basically plays male characters exclusively, I find it odd that FemHawke gets so little ad time.

the fact that either are getting ad time is bizarre. Bethesda never markets a Protagonist and their games sell better

Ugh. Reading this just makes me mad. I've never seen a company try to push its own "iconic" character so much as BioWare has. At least the other companies had their excuses. You could only play as that one character. But here, BioWare completely fails in trying to tout its most compelling feature: customization. Instead we get average Joe Schmoe Hero thrown into our face at every turn, and we get situations like THIS where people don't even know that you can play as a female character. Then they have the galls to claim that the male character is more marketable. Self-fulfilling prophecy indeed. <_<

A lot of people including myself are anticipating the day when they finally reveal fem Hawkes VA in some dev video of some sort.. I guess in a way its good for DA 2 marketing to get more people speculating about fem Hawke and I think I will feel a virtual shift in the community universe when a video of her is finally released..

When we were told that FemHawke's VA was in both Dragon Age and Mass Effect, did that include simply Awakening,  not necessarily Origins? I was just looking through the cast of Awakening and noticed there might be another FemHawke possibility that hasn't been placed on the list in the OP:

Jan Alexandra Smith - From Canada, not the UK, so that might discount her, but she was Delilah and Liza Packton in Awakening and played the Asari Councilor and Dr. Chloe Michel in ME 1 and 2.

There's also Stephanie Wulfe who wasn't on the list yet. She was Sophia Dryden in the Warden's Keep DLC, and did 'additional voices' in ME 2 (which might fit with what Gaider said about the VA having only a very small role in ME). I'm not sure what her nationality is, though...

Can you tell I'm getting antsy waiting to finally hear FemHawke's VA? :D

Exactly. I think the author on the site who comments about the tweet also said it best in this excerpt:

"The most upsetting aspect of his statement for me, is that he is labeling male Hawke as being iconic before Dragon Age 2 has even released to the public.  He is only iconic because he’s the only character shown on every piece of promo material for the game.  Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy.  A producer on the game feels that the male version of their main characters are the most prominent representation of the game.   You know what?  He’s right.  And it’s a sad truth.  The male characters are definitely more visible, but it’s only because BioWare has made them that way.  It’s a shame, because BioWare could have done things differently with Dragon Age 2 had it been a priority for them."
Yup. Just about sums it up for me. Posted Image
