This whole argument of realistic and unrealistic breast size in games reminds me of a picture that was posted up here awhile back

There's a lot of unrealistic features in many games with both character models and armour.

Now if this were a Conan/Red Sonja game I wouldn't mind and in fact say the boobs are too small.
But Bioware keeps claiming that they like to keep it classy and Dragon Age is supposed to be dark, gritty and somewhat realistic.

Do not worry most female gamers do not care THAT much about the size of breasts on a fictional person.
We see only a minority of gamers in general on these forums.Do not be scared by their bark!

In this particular thread it has been primarily males who are against the ridiculous size of the female characters breasts, not females.

Actually going through the posts there's a lot of females complaining about their size. I don't think there's a large amount of male gamers that mind big breasts in games.

That's not true either.
Very, very few people have advocated the thin, weak, and very breasty body bethany (and probably femhawke) has.

I am a guy and enjoy big boobs but the reason I am complaining is because I feel it cheapens the game

Thats feminist corruption. See past the influence.

Fair enough, though I wonder if the character models in the final release of the game will look the same as they do now.

IF they go without boob armor and what not women will complain they are playing are forced to play as a man.
Breasts are required to be seen as to notify a female player they are indeed playing a female.

No woman I know would make that complaint.
Strong warrior woman in proper armour who doesn't have massive breasts does not equal man.

Wait, what?
Did you just reduce the sum of femininity to a pair of glands?
And for that matter, imply that no woman would be able to discern what sex their character is unless these are exposed and bouncing in the breeze?
What kind of dim-witted, ignorant...

...Oh wait. That explains it.

A woman in real heavy armor will look exactly like a man.

Can you tell a man or woman from their face or hair?

Breasts are indeed the best most obvious visual way of showing a person this is a female.

No it isn't! I am a huge fan of Bioware because they one of the few companies who seem to support that games are a very powerful medium to tell great stories and can be considered art. I would also include Rockstar thanks to Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV. But I don't want to play as a pornstar in these games, it's like if Eowyn from LOTR was played by Pamela Anderson

Now if this were Gears or God Of War (Greeks were all about nudity and the perfect human shape). No problem. Hell the chick from Gears seems modest in comparison

Just wondering, if we were to rank all of the issues that ultimately concern us when it comes down to deciding if we're going to buy a game or not, where would "realism with regards to breasts" rank?

Big breasts do nothing to the story.

Small breasts do nothing to the story.

Having all characters not having their gender/sex revealed might do something to the story.

I don't believe its necessary for ones gender to be instantly recognisable when one is in battle.

Considering we are always ready for battle then no one should be able to recognise our gender/sex?

I don't feel the need for female characters to display flesh in order to identify their gender, armour is armour, not a fashion statement, usually.

However that image above doesn't really help the argument as the character depicted is one of the most andogynous I have ever seen.  I'd still prefer a female character to have defined feminine facial structure.

If you have doubts just strip your character to their regular clothes
Plus in real life there have been accounts of plate armor being shaped to fit the female form. You know why? Because otherwise it would be incredibly uncomfortable with your chest being all squeezed
Hell this was in the original DAO

Characters like Miranda and Samara in ME2 definitely cheapened my view of what was supposed to be a serious space opera.

Look guys, I've been practising fencing for about 8 years now .. And I can tell you - there ARE different chest protectors for men and women.. And yes, suprisingly, I'm one of those who have large boobs and thin waist, so it DOES happen, even among spororstwomen..

Btw .. Female version of chest protector looks like this and sizes are same as sizes of bras..

I have seen my brother watching some asian dramas....those men look so much like women...even their fashion call for hair down to their shoulders sometimes.

Well, I have not read through all of this post and its expanding faster than the boob sizes this post is all about, so its hard to keep up.

But having read enough, its nice to see sexism and sexist viewpoints are still going strong.

I think this is a good example of why we need far more women up there at the top of these companies designing and shaping games and if Bioware don't quite get the point of what this and other threads are all about and continue to dish out melon for the fanboi gawkers, then that alone is a sad testament to how male centric Bioware and game design in general still is.

For example, please point me to a Bioware vid clip or podcast where there is at least more than just a token female spokesperson of any clout ( if at all )
