Okay, we get it, you can't tell the sex without huge breasts.

Make up...
Again using actors really make it bias.
Really not the best example...

How does it make it bias? Because you know who they are? You should be able to determine whether you can tell if they look female from looking at it whether you know who they are or not. And besides actors how many people are going to be wearing armour? Maybe some people at medieval fairs or something, but it's not like just anyone is going to be wearing armour.

Miranda Otto, the actress on dispaly in these pictures definitely has boobs....thats all that needs to be said.

You cannot tell the sex with just a face....
I have seen quite a few women with faces you would normally associate with a man.

Lol, you're mad? It's a woman. If you have doubts you probably have really, really big problems.

As a guy I don't think I could ever get my neck that small without a diet bordering on malnutrition. I mean, I'm looking for secondary sex characteristics on that pic - and they're there: thin neck, narrow jawline, pouty lips - but none are so feminine as to be unheard of if they were attributes possessed by a male.

So in short I'd say she looks like a woman.  But if someone told me, "Actually it's a dude" I wouldnt be shocked.  It'd be a feminine dude, but those do exist.

@Arttis
But that won't be a problem in DA2, will it? Whatever the breast size.

Too bad. Willful denial is such a turn-off.

Allow me to completely destroy this silly notion of boobage being required to identify a persons sex.

And I know plenty of women that you'd never associate with a man's face.

It is by no means required, but it is one of the most obvious secondary sex characteristics.  Probably second only to facial hair on men.

take away make up and that could pass for a man.
Some men do have feminine faces you know....I myself have been mistaken for a woman before....its quite embarrasing.....so i stick to a near shaved head.To help fools who think they can jusge a person's sex from their face and hair!

Oh, so now it's boobage and long hair which are the prerequisites in order to pass as a woman?
Very well.

So you are suggesting that without makeup women look like men?

I'm sick of just referring to it, so here's a comprehensive list according to Wikipedia:

In humans, secondary sex characteristics include:

* Male
o Growth of body hair, including underarm, abdominal, chest, and pubic hair. Loss of scalp hair androgenic alopecia can also occur
o Greater mass of thigh muscles in front of the femur, rather than behind it as is typical in mature females
o Growth of facial hair
o Enlargement of larynx [Adam's apple] and deepening of voice[3]
o Increased stature; adult males are taller than adult females, on average
o Heavier skull and bone structure
o Increased muscle mass and strength
o Broadening of shoulders and chest; shoulders wider than hips[4]
o Increased secretions of oil and sweat glands, often causing acne and body odor [3]
o Coarsening or rigidity of skin texture, due to less subcutaneous fat
o Higher waist to hip ratio than prepubescent or adult females or prepubescent males, on average

* Female
o Enlargement of breasts and erection of nipples.[4]
o Growth of body hair, most prominently underarm and pubic hair
o Greater development of thigh muscles in back (behind the femur) than in front of it
o Widening of hips[5]; lower waist to hip ratio than adult males, on average
o Increased secretions of oil and sweat glands, often causing acne and body odor [3]
o Upper arms approximately 2 cm longer, on average, for a given height[6]
o Changed distribution in weight and fat; more subcutaneous fat and fat deposits mainly around the buttocks, thighs and hips

There you go. Plenty of ways to identify someone's sex without looking down their pants or up their skirt.

I for one am annoyed at all the needless peripheral arguments. The arguments are really this:

1) Do we want to see sexualized armor and clothing or realistic armor and clothing? Is there a middle ground?
2) In terms of sexual attractiveness, when do artists cross the line from believably attractive to cartoonish stereotypes?

All this stuff about trying to identify various women in unisex clothing is just drawing us away from those issues.

And for those less bright folk who have attempted to justify the status quo when it comes to hefty mammaries, by equating it to males in game being portrayed as bulging beefcake, here's the thing. Its just not a justifiable comparison.

Exaggerated muscle tone reflects supreme strength. The trait of the warrior in games like this. ( righlty or wrongly, the muscle on display still equates to the intent, ie 'this character is strong' ).

What exactly do exaggerated breasts reflect ?

Are ridicuosly large breasts reflective of strength for the female warrior, of spell power for the female mage..?

I doubt it.

but my rogue and mage are as buff as my warrior.

Which, of course, is stupid. Could you imagine Arnie as a nimble, quick footed thief

( the scene between him and Danny Devito in 'Twins' talking about how limiting all that muscle bulk must be is a gem. )

Well done to the OP for being a woman who is comfortable with her own body and isn't threatened by game characters.

I've seen the screen shots of Bethany and her mother and I don't think their boob size is really unbelievable or exaggerated, they look about a D or DD to me.

Was it an issue in DA:O? No? Then it won't be one in DA2.
Can forget about this now.

Wow, did this thread really become about how to tell a man from a woman if she doesn't have big breasts?

I think I'll leave now.
