Dragon Age has built up to be a realistic RPG, they even gave rotten teeth to add more to that detail.

They've just gone on and made a huge deal about them switching visual style to give it more impact, no doubt the redesign of the women is part of that.

I don't think adding giant breasts count as a visual style change.

But why can't we be strong, capable, AND have large breasts?

Because then women become Mary Sues. And Mary Sues are not compelling or engaging characters. Both physical and mental flaws lead to a more (dare I say it) emotionally engaging. How can a player connect to a virtually perfect character? I want my Hawke to be a dbag with a big nose. I want my femHawke to be buff and capable of ripping off an ogre's head. I don't want some model-esque femmy princess walking in and somehow felling an army of darkspawn with no visible muscles and two jugs just flailing off her chest.

Jeebus Zombie Christ, big ****** does not a Mary Sue make.  In fact they are a flaw when it comes to physical combat.

I never, ever want to hear "big boobs are a flaw for Mary Sues" ever, ever, ever again.

"OMG I'm just sooooo suetiful, you don't understand! *sparkle*"

Personally I don't care for the big breasts at all, in fact I think it looks silly, but it comes with the territory of a fantasy game and I'm fine with that. I'll just mod in something to my liking later.

And DAO was not a fantasy game?  Or does making the female model an EE instead of a D make it more of a fantasy game than DAO was?

Please, if you say "artistic vision" or the like one more time, I'm going to bust some facial muscles from all the smirking and chortling.  Dumbing down and bro'ing out is not "embracing a different standard of beauty" or whatever the hell the marketing jargon was.

That is not buxom, BTW.  It's gargantuan.  Did Stanley Woo really write that?  I hope he didn't do so with a straight face.

Which is exactly why some people are upset about them.

First of all, I'm fine with the model existing, but it's a very rare and very idealized model that doesn't belong on every single woman. I would prefer a medium, if you would.

Second of all, there's large, and then there's that. That's not D-Cup large, that's like, EE cup large. Or more. Ivy-freaking-Valentine large.

Third of all, large breasts on a thicker frame that wasn't built to support them cause back problems, as well as makes it difficult to be active. Running with C-Cups can hurt without proper support. That looks painful.

Fourth of all, really, you've never seen that hourglass on any other female fighter in video game history? This is not a rare thing--just the opposite.

If they don't jiggle in absurd ways then they're a rarity.

As a side note: I never realized that breast size could start such a hub-bub O.o

So you're basically saying a girl with a nicely shaped rack is unrealistic in a fantasy game?

*I covered your elf example above*

In a medival world where silicone and growth hormones didn't exist in meat products, having EE sized breasts would almost be physically impossible with that waist line.

No you didn't.

In a medival world where silicone and growth hormones proper nutrition and steroids didn't exist  in
meat products
, having EE sized breasts 18 to 20 inch arms and as big and ripped as Arnold Schwarzenegger would almost be physically impossible with that waist line.

And by the way, Lady Hawke doesn't have EE cups and its a fantasy game, theres a suspension of disbelief regarding a ladies rack, its a trivial matter for gods sake. And as far as boobs go, its genetic. Its not as if human males suddeunly have a penis that comes out of his anus.

I meant more along the lines of "large breasts are an attractive and sexy trait that somewhat diminish Hawke as a character in the regards that Hawke is less flawed." And I won't even try to imagine warrior Hawke trying to swing a two handed sword with those knockers in the way. It's not a flaw. It's just silly.

It's called artistic liberty, honestly it's not hard to grasp. If Bioware wanted to make an ultra realistic game where everything was like its real life equivalent they'd done it. Woman in fantasy game does not woman in real like make.

I hated mage caps, too, and want those changed. Only those are optional.

Not every choice they make is pure gold and needs to stay there.

Are you trying to say that DAO and DA2 male models look like Arnold Schwarzenegger?

Well they do seem to be moving away from realism in DA2, what with the whole, rogue Nightcrawler poof attack, warrior lightspeed charge and acrobat swordsmanship, enemy bodies gibbing and leaving stumps behind upon death... people seem to like these changes, though.

Flicker was in Awakenings, and it remains to be the most satisfying ability in the game.

Why do you keep mentioning this?. Bioware doesn't care that you don't share their vision, and that you 'laugh' at them, and neither do I. I don't see the point in bringing it up repeatedly. Giggle away.

The men in Dragon Age don't have arms as big as Arnold, last time I checked.

We've been through this before, Saibh placed a side-by-side picture with Ivy and Pamela Anderson and Bethany ranks up there.

theres a suspension of disbelief regarding a ladies rack, its a trivial matter for gods sake.

Trivial for you. Probably because you want these giant breasts.

That actually makes sense; one could argue that a bust that large in such an era could only be attributed to genetic mutation.

Yeah but they seem to be changing the system in DA2 to give people that kind of satisfaction in every attack. Flicker wasn't really realistic either, but your character in Awakening was also what might be considered "epic level" in D&D terms. I dunno what levels we're working with in DA2.

There is a difference between artistic liberties and complete silliness though. To me Bethany's body model is complete silliness, taken beyond any reasonable extreme. If you see it differently then so be it, not all will that as reasonable though.

That was the point, zooming overhead just now.

Designing a body shape that makes normal movement impossible and then making it so that T&A delivery system can do backflips and fancy sword work= making the PC more of a Mary Sue.

Hehehe. Yeah.
But I guess it also depends on what the person w/ a, umm, 'large chest' is wearing.
I once made the mistake of asking a friend (former friend? ) who was, umm, 'well-endowed' if she had 'problems' when she was practicing (she was a fencer. Epee, I think). If memory serves, she did seem to indicate that she didn't have any problems. Maybe the plastic chest protector thingy female fencers wore help? *shrugs*

I personally would prefer a more 'realistic': a muscular female would tend to have a smaller chest, right?

I think its quite sad that to the average non-gamer looking over my shoulder I'll look more mature pllaying COD4 then I would playing a deep story oriented RPG.

(Note: I'm talkinmg about how characters are physically portrayed)

A slider for the breast proportions wouldn't be a bad idea, but I'd also want a slider for the male package. Equality!
