One clothing model? I was under the impression we were looking at the human female body model.

We are, it's just another uninformed person coming in. Just ignore it.

Men aren't that "shredded" in Dragon Age, and certainly not proportionally built as the women are busty.

I'll leave Saibh to explain the argument she just loves to explain again in hopes you actually pay attention this time. :D

I hate you.

Seriously? Practically every video game I have laid my hands on has female characters with giant breasts and a tiny waist. This is just playing into the same BS that every other game and most forms of media play into. I'm sorry, but I just can't take your post seriously.

Somebody doesn't know how to read, i said lady Hawke, i wasn't talking about Bethany.

Granted, the pics we've seen are fuzzy, but it looks like Lady Hawke and Bethany share the same body type.

I'm not sure why people think that package is the male equivalent to boob size. I don't know any woman personally who looks for absurdly large bulges in a man.

Yeah judging from the responses I've seen on the board the best thing to do is give Garret chest hair.

Please, if you say "artistic vision" or the like one more time, I'm going to bust some facial muscles from all the smirking and chortling.  Dumbing down and bro'ing out is not "embracing a different standard of beauty" or whatever the hell the marketing jargon was.

Why do you keep mentioning this?. Bioware doesn't care that you don't share their vision, and that you 'laugh' at them, and neither do I. I don't see the point in bringing it up repeatedly. Giggle away.

Oh, no doubt.  They're too busy counting projected sales from the knuckle-draggers.

But it is supposed to be a story-based RPG and they throw out these highbrow things like 15th century paintings and Akira Kurosawa movies as their artistic sources, and then it becomes apparent that they had Bruegel tacked up next to Busty Heart pinups.  What's not to laugh about?

Women do exist in real life. In real life, those proportions are very, very rare. (I've never met a woman with those proportions naturally. Big boobs, sure. Small waist, sure. That big and that small? Never, but there's always a first.) I can compare those figures with real life and say, hey, that's not right! Your willing suspension of disbelief isn't hurt--but you're a guy. For a lot of girls, they are more attuned to that sort of issue and are affected by it. We compare it in real life and find it unrealistic. Not a fantasy, unrealistic.

It *is* a fantasy. It's just not a women's fantasy. But I guess that's in line with your take on the issue anyway.

Gamers prefer their characters to look good. For the most part. Now, if gigantic breasts helped with sales and fanbase so far (as in DOA), it's not really a surprise BioWare would follow the same route.

Or maybe them guys in BioWare just wanted to create models as they wished. I'd respect that.

And if they presented us with A cups instead, I'd be like "screw respect, wtf is up with flat chests." But that's beside the point.

The only person who clearly has giant ******, from what i've seen so far, is Bethany's clothing model.

Your character's mother too, Aveline has a pretty bad angle in the picture but if you saw her ingame she apparently has the same and Fem Hawke (from what we've seen on the stream today) also has it. The only female character with smaller breasts (from what we've seen) is Flemeth and she has her own custom model.

There is absolutely no evidence to support the assertion that large breasts on female characters leads to greater sales.  I can see why you want to believe that, given just about every other form of media, but games just happen to be different.

And if BioWare purposely created the models to look like that - that is to say, if there was a board meeting that came to this very conclusion specifically - then I would definitely not respect such low-brow game design.

It's a stupid and juvenile trend that does not help with game sales

I don't remember Starcraft being all about the boobage, don't recall Super Mario, don't recall even Doom, Half-Life, Wii Sports, Gran Tursimo

Even ZOMG

****ing Grand Theft Auto games

Urggh.  The reason people are reacting is that the boobs are much, much larger than the DAO female models.  Maybe you've been running the porn mod so long that you've forgotten this.

Or maybe them guys in BioWare just wanted to create models as they wished. I'd respect that.

No, actually, I don't have to respect them at all.   And certainly there is a happy medium between flat chested and watermelon sized.  DAO managed it.

Mama Hawke has an enourmas rack. And so does Aveline. All human female models, which is to say the only human female model in the game, we've seen up to this point have had very large breasts. It can easily be concluded that femHawke will have the same sized chest seeing as she shares the same body structure.

Edit: Aww. Dave beat me on that one.

But...they...weren't gigantic in DAO. Or ME. And sales were great. DOA has a particular brand of marketing, and that is BEWBIES! BioWare games sell on story. I do not think they'd help sales that much, simply because big boobs is not why people come to BioWare.

See, that's my big thing:

Guys, you can have your fanservice. Miranda has a reasonable figure--I mean, idealized and woah day-um that catsuit--but her body is evenly proportioned. Morrigan wears a scarf and an eyepatch for each nipple. You can have your fanservice, and it need not be at the expense of the female character model. We can have our average figure, or somewhat better than average figure, and you can have your fan service.

Everybody wins!

But why can't we be strong, capable, AND have large breasts?

Because then women become Mary Sues. And Mary Sues are not compelling or engaging characters. Both physical and mental flaws lead to a more (dare I say it) emotionally engaging. How can a player connect to a virtually perfect character? I want my Hawke to be a dbag with a big nose. I want my femHawke to be buff and capable of ripping off an ogre's head. I don't want some model-esque femmy princess walking in and somehow felling an army of darkspawn with no visible muscles and two jugs just flailing off her chest.

So because a female character has large breasts and isn't incompetant, she must be a must be someone's mary sue? Thats pretty presumptuous.

Having big breasts doesn't preclude someone from being strong or competant. If you want to argue that it would be a hinderance in combat or would be unrealistic in a medival setting, fine. But there are a number of ways Dragon Age (or any other IP) deviates from reality and that would be another thread in of itself.

That said I understand why people want smaller sizes for female characters, but there is no reason to assume larger cup sizes = lesser character.
