I usually will go for MaleShep (my infiltrator, adept and vanguard)

but I have been using FemShep for other things like Engineers. (not like that matters but still)

I thought Male Sheperd had really good voice acting, because I was used to the voice from ME1 and my first playthroughs of ME2.

But when I switched to FemShep I thought she was so sarcastic as if she was bored of voice acting. Still though, as I use her more I get used to the voice and it's ok now.

But I prefer Mark Meer's voice.

Honestly, I've always preferred the Male Shepard, and not for any of the other ridiculous "my VA is better than yours" arguments. Both VAs are top of line in their field. I simply prefer Meer's characterization of Shepard better. Example: in Mass Effect 1 if you've been constantly hanging up on the council and the asari councilor asks if you call in just to hang up, your reply could be to hang up with a hilarious " You know it!", comment. Meer's version of that line made me laugh my a** off. :P

I've always thought Meer's voice was goofy sounding: if I was in the military and had a commander with that voice, I'd sooner laugh at him than follow him on a suicidal mission (if I had to decide to go on that mission based on their voice alone anyway), not to mention he doesn't seem to speak with any authority at all. It also doesn't even seem like Meer is trying to sound like a commander, it just sounds like he's reading the lines so that he can get out of the voice recording studio and get his next paycheck. I played through ME1 4 times, 3 of which were femshep. I tried to continue my maleshep character into ME2, but by the time I got to the Reaper IFF mission, I got tired of hearing the voice and rolled another femshep (already beat the game once with one of my femshep saves before I tried the male shep...... and maybe my maleshep's hair style had something to do with it. Why can't they give maleshep a hairstyle that doesn't suck?). Maybe in a couple of months I'll go back and beat the game with my male shep just so that i can have the option in me3, but right now, the voice just sounds too goofy to me. So no, you aren't alone in wanting to only play femshep.

I don't mean to sound sexist, but I can't take FemShep seriously as a Renegade and the lovey dovey attitude of a Paragon makes her sounds even worse for me. Therefore I don't like playing as FemShep at all. I have yet to finish ME2 with a FemShep.

I never play as the opposite sex in a video game whenever possible, so that means I always play as MaleShep.

I have 5 fsheps to my 1mshep and the only reason was I wanted to see if Mshep behaved differently to situations then FShep so I suffered w/ his VO for 1 took a long break w/2 making sure I played all my FSheps to death then loaded up MShep...

his voice is 1% better but thats really not much! I mean w/ FShep I can feel and hear when she's making a joke the best line I can get for this example would be after Tali's trial she says, " We can still go back in and get you exiled if you want," Her voice if playful not the most playful tone you ever heard but you still got she was doing a joke.

MShep says the same line no emotion yeah he's sooo reading a paper at least 95% he sounds like this please work on the acting part in voice acting for MShep!

Voice Director: " FShep great job! MShep...uh, one more time WITH FEELING!"

The only reasons I have a MaleShep is because of Tali and because he makes a better renegade than
FemShep.(imo)

My "main" shep is male (based off of me, completed everything in ME1 with him), and out of six sheps, 2 are male. Me, and my Engineer, Geordi shepard. Yes, based off of Laforge.

I like both VA's. For me, ME1 was the first time I heard Meer's voice, but hale I heard from titans such as metal gear.

I play both. My primary Shepard is a male, though.

Always play femshep, I just prefer the female model and the VA over the maleshep. I also go for the immortal reasoning that a friend of mine has when he is questioned about playing female characters.. "look dude, if I'm going to be staring at the rear end of a character for hours on end I'd rather it be female than male."

I always play as FemShep, but it has more to do with enjoying playing female characters in roleplaying games than voice acting. I do think Jennifer Hale is better, in general, than Mark Meer, but I don't think he's as horrible as some people claim, especially in ME2. As someone with ovaries, I just like the idea of being a strong female character, if I'm going to pretend to be someone else.

Actually, I play both of them. I have enough nerves to handle the two.

The VA's for maleshep and femshep are good in their own ways, but that's a matter of taste.

Well, I don't have ovaries, but I guess I can relate to that.

This pretty much sums up my feelings too.

Both are great. Hale excels on certain types of lines, Meer on others.

All of this "maleshep/femshep VA ruined the game for me" is just sensationalist, melodramatic nonsense.

Well, to be honest I play most of the time as a femShep.

Of my 30 playthroughs, 7 are male and the rest is female.

But I strongly advise to play with both of them, there are changes in the characters and some things are unique for male/female Shepard.

Rivercurse is right, people who play only one gender are loosing a big portion of the game.

I always play males in my RPGs. I find it very awkward to play as a Female character.

I agree.   I do have one more FemShep in my group and I can certainly relate to her better, but I enjoy playing both and also agree both Meer and Hale are good.

I have mostly femshep characters...Hale did an awesome job with her voice. The one male shep is...a little dead. I care for him a lot less. I'm thinking when I finally get around to porting him into ME2 I'm going to kill him off hehe.

But if you kill him then you can't stay w/ Tali or Miranda think how sad they'd be

i always play a female in any games that i have the choice to do so..nothing against playing a male character i just prefer playing a female because i am female. i dont really see anything wrong with meer's voice acting..but i do prefer jennifer hale..ive always loved her voice acting :D

from some videos ive watched for male shep.. personally i think meer does a better job at renegade, but then at some points hale's voice seems to have more emotion. they are both good in their own way. its all down to prefrence and taste

..i want to go play a male shep now so i can hear all the voice acting :D

there's no way to make her not look ridiculous when you make the char

Lies!

That being said, it's much harder than it should be to make a decent looking toon - male or female.  You get a couple locked viewing angles and flat lighting.  Then in both games you have to sit through an unskippable cinematic, then in ME2 you have to play a short level and sit through another cinematic before you can even get a peek at what your results look like.

My current avatar is the result of:
- About ten different versions of a ME1 toon.  Thats right, I got to hear Udina say, "Well, what about Shepard" ten times before I settled.
- A manual recreation of the ME1 toon in ME2 without a saved code since imported toons don't have codes.  Had to eyeball it.

You are not alone here. I actually restarted ME1 half way through(a few times) because I thought my Shep looked "out of place" or just butt-ugly with weird lighting. That was prob why I hate the Mako so much.
