The character is an elven fighter/thief multi. The plan is to use the Staff of Striking for backstabs and the Staff of the Magi to dispel and cast Spell Trap, with another weapon as my primary damage-dealer until I get the upgraded Staff of the Ram. I plan to tackle Watcher's Keep between retrieving the Rhynn Lanthorn and the final battle with Irenicus. Since I'm gonna need the SotM and the SoS/SotR equipped at all times for backstab and dispel, I want another two handed weapon so that there's no inventory-management hassle. I've thrown swords out of the equation and am stuck between spears and halberds, each for a different weapon.

Ravager +6, halberd
1d10 +6, +3d6 unless save vs. poison, 10% vorpal effect (no save)

Impaler +3, spear
1d6 +3, +10 piercing damage

Edit: I know a lot of enemies are resistant to slashing/piercing damage, but is the 3d6 from the Ravager poison damage or slashing? Would appreciate the help and suggestions.

I know you said you're ignoring swords, but you might consider Carsomyr; it's got the same dispelling effect(*) as the SoTM, good damage and +50% MR(*). There's no doubt the Ravager is an amazing weapon, but I usually end up using Carsomyr all the time because of the "permanent" dispelling effect and MR. Carsomyr is also available extremely early whereas Ravager+6 isn't available until quite late in the game. Still, you can get other good halberds quite early (Dragon's Bane, Duskblade, Dragon's Breath+4), so it's not that bad.

I've never really used spears much, but the Impaler does have incredible damage considering how early you find it. There aren't really any great spears available until then, though. Also, the "low" enchantment level might be slightly annoying.

Another option is to just use a 1H weapon along with a single pip in Single Weapon Style. That opens up Axes, Maces, War Hammers and Flails. (Flails or Axes are probably the best options here.)

(*) Requires tweaks/fixes. I'm using the "Item Upgrade" version of Carsomyr -- its dispel effect actually works(!) and it provides +50% MR (rather than setting MR to 50%).

I guess your question is what +2 or +3  (or +4) weapon should I go after until I get to the really good stuff?
Any time  you have the cash you can buy the +4 Staff of Rhynn from Ribald in the Adventurers Mart. For defensive purposes there's the +2 spear of the Unicorn - I forget which battle you get this as loot. And you can get the 2nd part of the +4 Wave halbard in Shark City. If you are a good enough thief you might be even be able to pickpocket it from the Prince without killing him. And there's always a +3 anti-dragon halbard you win in another battle.

If your goal is to make life easier by getting some of the good stuff early, have you considered doing the first 2 levels of Watchers Keep BEFORE  you go to Spellhold? WK isn't all that tough until the 3rd level.

Yeah but Carsomyr was intended to provide 50% MR, not +50% MR, so I'm gonna pass on that. If I were to use a 2H sword, it would be either Gram or the Warblade. I usually get 55-75% on my setups and I don't want to have to do the whole re-equipping game every time I switch from staff to sword.

I just spoke with a friend who pointed out that the Ravager does poison damage but most ToB baddies will make the save. Since I don't have Doom or G. Malison access, I think I'll just use the Wave/Dragon's Breath/Dragon's Bane when needed.

As for my primary weapon, I'm now trying to pick between long swords, scimitars, and clubs so I can make use of Gaxx Imp. Haste and Assassination :D

I'm interpreting "re-equipping game every time I switch [...]" to mean that you'd want to re-equip everything in order so that you'd (effectively) get +50% MR from the Carsomyr. If that's the case, I don't see the why you'd object to just making it +50%MR outright.

Yeah, the big thing with Ravager is the Vorpal chance. It's extremely effective against normal enemies, but it not that great against the big bosses (who are usually immune to Vorpal hits).

Clubs (in Vanilla) are just awful, so I wouldn't recommend that. For pure damage, I'd recommend FoA+5 or the Axe of the Unyielding. With the FoA+5 you can still use Imp. Haste -- just make sure you cast it before equipping the FoA (or, more easily, by switching to your other weapon).
